Of course only fellow American forum members will appreciate this post...
I just thought I would cheer on the Carolina Panthers in the Superbowl number XXXVIII ... kickoff was 10 minutes ago ... since I am a native North Carolinian
For those of you who don't know what the Superbowl is ... it is the final game of the NFL (National Football League) Championship!... (and I mean American Football.. not Soccer) - It is a big thing here in the U.S.
Who else here is pulling for the Panthers?

Yes, the Panthers have been off form since losing that quarterback mid season.

I can live with the second name! It's strange really, but no self respecting football fan (outside of the USA and Australia) would ever dream of calling the game 'soccer'.

Rugby League is a great sport. St. Helens RLFC for me. All games home and away. Add all City's home games and half the away ones and it'a pretty fine sum of money spent over the year.
Rugby Union is only marginally more exciting than American Football, which isn't in the slightest bit exciting; in my humble British opinion of course!
I like Gaelic Football too, when it's the All-Ireland Championship. Not interested in the league and club stuff; not that we see any of it over here anyway.

I agree that Rudby is a tough game!!
And it is becoming more popular here in the U.S. ... it is actually becoming part of some High School sport programs.

That will be Rugby Union alas. Rugby League is far, far tougher, and a much more exciting spectacle.
Alas as Rugby Union is played in more countries throughout the world, and as such has a strong international game, League will never be as popular, outside of it's heartlands in the North of England and Australia.

You'd think so! They kick it now and again!
It's strange league has the money at the minute but when the Union boys are winning at international level it's hard to find the will to spread the league rules through europe and the world.

OK, i was going for the panthers, because there a southern team, they have a fellow from breax bridge LA, and they didnt cheat in the play of games lie them damn patriots. i would have betted on the patriots, though. and janet jackson let timberlake pull her shirt off (yeah, she was bra-less) and the folks that set up the show had no idea they were going to do that.
