Hey guys! I'm trying to find this Chinese movie and I can't remember the name of it to save my life. I've just happened to accidentally run across it on tv twice. The second time I saw it was years after the first time and both times I never caught the beginning. I haven't seen it again since and it was years ago.

This movie is about a family in China. It is during the time Mao was in office. They are always talking about how great China will be if everyone works together and contributes. The whole village usually eats together under the communist regime and they always have plenty. No one will go hungry because General Mao will provide. This family has a small son that gets killed while sleeping behind a wall. A car runs into the wall and it collapses on him and he dies. The mother always takes a little box of dumplings to the boy's grave and she blames the father for everything all the time. There is one scene in a hospital where they feed this old man some rolls. He is so hungry that he wolfs down like 6 of them. Then he drinks too much water and the rolls expand in his stomach and it causes problems. There is also a little story or fable that they tell a couple of times during the movie that is directly related to the title. I can't remember the fable either!! Aaaaaaaaaah! This will sound goofy, but the fable is about some little animal growing into something else. I want to say a duck or a rabbit or something????

I'm hoping someone will recognize it and give me the title. I've been looking for this movie for 3 years. Thanks!
