I personally wouldn't get tattooed because they are so permanent. But I never judge people because of how they look. Now bad hygiene I'm less tolerant of. Have you guys ever seen the henna tattoos ? They can be a good alternative.

Here's one

I like henna, a lady I know does my hands all the time. This sort of stuff...
linked-image
I love it. You have to be careful with black henna though, some people's skin reacts very badly to it and it causes a burn, which scars. The lady who does mine mixes her own paste so she knows how strong it is and what's in it, but thats the brown henna.

I LOVE tattoo's. That said, I only have one, on my pelvis, its just visable if I have low rise jeans on.
I think they can look amazing. But theres nothing worse than a bad tattoo or people being tattoo'd just for the sake of it.

I am getting another one and this one will be able to be hidden too...lower back...or a tramp stamp as my dear Aussie friend calls it disgust.gif

I love Kat Von D, I think she is one of the coolest, hottest looking chicks around, but me being a mum and having a normal life I think I would look a bit dodgy walking around Asda tattoo's to the hilt.

Well, it seems you confuse her politics with her person. She came into where I used to work in Manhattan (and for some reason the pictures made Time magazine), and I got to spend a few minutes with her. I'm no fan, but she really was very well-spoken, intelligent and sincere in a way few people (*especially* actors) I've met have been.

Slagging her off like that just makes you look small, and for an adult to use the term "trout pouch" speaks of a severely stunted vocabulary.

--Jaylemurph

I think he actually said "trout pout" it just means she pouts and makes her lips stick out in a way that looks similar to a fish (a trout). I don't know the girl personally but she does pout a lot!

QUOTE (Kismit @ Jan 20 2008, 09:45 AM) *
At the risk of going off topic.

This is by no means a reflection on all people with no hair but If the kind of skinheads who are right wing extremists are the minority why would a google image search come up with more right winged skinheads than musically influenced skinheads..

Link to Google images

I live in a country where the majority of Skinheads are Third Riecht and White Power. These people don't appear to have long life spans, there certainly are not many over the age of 35 any way. Natural Selection, life Prison sentences and Adulthood tend to thin them out a little.

Do a google image search on "shaved head". I shave my head. I hate Ska music. I am not a racist. I don't wear braces. I own a pair of DMs. I like the film Romper Stomper. I think Nazis are silly. I do sometimes laugh at racist jokes. I have never "rolled" a paki. Labels are so pointless.

Oh and as for tattoos, I have 6 of them. I would not get any more as I have sort of run out of room and I prefer them to be in places that can be easily covered if necessary.

I love maori moko . an ex of mine lived there a few years. I would if I could , something light and delicate. but no guts here. All my tattoos ( not many = 4 and small) are hidden except for a delicate one under my ear on my neck - and no one ever notices it unless it's pointed out.

I'd get something light

Her lips (Jolie's) were always like this and she used to get beat up & teased as child because of her "fishy face". She mentions how ironic it is,that this is her trademark now.

I would like a tattoo on my chest of my name and zodiac sign
the sky is falling!
Personally I wouldn't be able to look at the same piece of art for the rest of my life.
If I was to get a tattoo (which I'm going to) is has to have meaning. I'm going to get one in memory of my grandma and grandpa when they pass. As well as my mother.
So instead of looking at it, and seeing artwork you've seen a million times. You'll have the memory of the lost loved one instead, a reminder of how much you cared for them, and for anyone else who sees the tattoo.

My thought is that they probably went to amatuers (non-licensed, no actual place of business), or shops that weren't following strict sanitary guidelines. I don't know where you're at exactly, but the state of Oregon has strict guidelines and rules as to cleanliness, etc; that if the shop is repuatable, they will adhere to, so as not to be closed down. The place I go to was listed as the best place to get a tattoo in Portland by Tattoo magazine, and they are really concious about keeping everything sanitary. The needles are one-use, and they open the package in front of you, so you know it's new. They have one-use ink 'pots', and only use paper towels once to clean stuff off. The shop itself is also really clean, and not cluttered. That's what you should be looking for when searching for a shop. I don't care how good the artist is, if they're not using common sense and being safe, you shouldn't be going to them. Period.

person at 30 or 40 + years old.

For me, the tattoo that I got at age 19 (15 years ago) is a reminder of who I was and what I was at that time. I don't regret it at all.

I think large pieces on women are very attractive.

Only a few people have shown their work. Anyone else want to show their tattoos?

I'm partial to large pieces that cover a lot of skin. I like sleeves where there is virtually no uncovered skin, or pieces that cover a lot of square inches, not necessarily large themselves. For instance, a tattoo of a butterfly is nice, but a tattoo of a butterfly sitting on a flower in a field of daisies that covers a whole section of skin is more attractive to me.

by the way, the tattood convict that Billy Hill posted was an escaped felon who killed some people in the states and then was recaptured. At least that's what I recall.

I agree, I also don't think anyone could look like a Maori unless they actually are them.

However, I think only the genuine Maori's can pull off the face tattoos and still look cool - face tattoo's make you look, well - slightly barking really.
Belle.
Who cares where the art comes from? My partner is part-Maori (although admittedly he looks more like that escaped convict sans facial tats!) and he has Pictish symbols, japanese art and movie references. Life is too short to worry if you have the cultural heritage to pull off a tattoo.

I guess my point is that tattoos, if done to celebrate say, your time in the Army, Team etc, is acceptable

otherwise they just look cheap and tacky.... specially the modern fad of Maury tattoos......

God people with Maury & other tribal designs are so unoriginal........its as if everyone under the age of 35 has them....
specially these tribal tattoos women get done on their lower back......they walk around as if they are the only one in the room with one.....I cringe for them

nothing wrong with an opinion but yours are hateful ...............

I've never gotten a maori tat , I don't think I could. I love them because an ex lived there and lots of her friends are Maori. Plenty
of people who married into the culture are not blood but do end up with facial tats.

see , here's the thing with you.

you don't like anyone who doesn't fit into the square box of life as you see it. I can see your type of peers .... overweight , gootee.
your 'different' tatts ( which are very common) your crew cut to hide your thinning crown , your dark thick framed glasses which
you may change for contacts , once into bands like smashmouth and the like , own a bass but can't play , sleep in moms basement
and once tried to have dreadlocks. Believe white is better but secretly crush on the cool black chick you can't have. I may be pushing
it there - I don't see alot of females in your life but 'good buddies' which explains your obsession with gay men.

or something very close to it. so since you can't be unique you point out how everyone else isn't either ( not exactly
rocket science).

so someone like Mauri tatts - so what ? you had to come in and spew about it. How much of the life your living comes from
other influences ? probably most. Someone sees another culture as beautiful and you hate that ? get a life dude. find a wave.

oh dear, like...er why don't you read the title of the thread Tattoos..who has them?, who hates them?

All I said was I think people (non maori) who get maori tattoos are pretentious. Which obviously struck a nerve with you, cause you like them.
Or know people who have them.. big deal. you're so much of cliche I could've predicted that before I even commented on the thread.
"wow man, they're such spiritual people, at one with the earth and the earth goddess" yep, Ripley anything ethnic and you have to elevate in a Pseudointellectual patronising way; while lacking the requisite background knowledge and experience to have an informed opinion.

Sounds like your ex-girlfriend. yes.gif I can almost visualize her pretentious... "Lesbianonic delusions" in thinking she has a spiritual affinity with the maori people. Like those sad middle class Americans who try and join native American tribes.

You know what? I kinda agree with Billy here. Just in a much nicer way. wink2.gif

SO many people get 'tribal' tats, chinese or japanese characters, maori ink --- whatever - some design from a culture not their own. I know a woman with "Mom" in chinese character on her arm. Obivously Mom means a lot, but why in Chinese? She is not Chinese, her kids are not Chinese, her Mom is not Chinese ... the only thing she knows about chinese is chicken chow mein and rice noodle with extra duck sauce please.

Tribal or culturally specific tattoos are another thing. From what I understand about Maori ink, different families/clans have different designs specific to them. It is a status and identification thing. So a white guy from the suburbs (who has no connection to the culture) getting a Maori tattoo is like disrespecting their culture and what the tattoos mean.

I agree, although I don't fault anyone for having something not from their culture. I look at is evidence that we are all becoming a planetary culture, slowly but surely. And that can only be good, I imagine.
