I look at is evidence that we are all becoming a planetary culture, slowly but surely. And that can only be good, I imagine.

I agree with this and it is good.

I think people who have words written in a different language to their own do it so that other people can't read what it says - it's more intimate that way, that only the important people in your life know what is says.

My sister has just had her daughters' names put on a scroll at the bottom of her spine - in English. She also has my daughter's name on her shoulder. She's 42.

Neognosis
Interesting. If I was going to choose a phrase in another language, I would naturally choose Latin, the mother tongue of my European culture.

Important people and all those who speak the foreign language.

I personally don't care what people put on their bodies, I just find it really odd to get a tattoo - something so permanent - of something that doesn't have any meaning to you.

I guess though, that some people have no meaning at all, and are just interested in externals. (shrug)

I was into Tetragrammaton and Pentagrammaton and how they related to each other etc.. just as a hobbie.. And I liked how the name YHVH made like a little man.. I thought that was pretty cool.. So I got this one..

linked-image

I thought of it when I got it as in meaning family almost. Like the Yod is the Father, the first He is the Mother, the Vau is the son etc. And I liked how it all came together as one in the name YHVH. I wanted to get a Shin on my other shin but I never got around to it. I have a small pentagram on my other leg though. Which to me is like the same thing anyway. So yeah I got mine when my son was about to be born I think.. or just after.. I forget, but it was to symbolise my family.

So I dont care if people have other languages on them.. I see it as people are liking another culture which is a good thing. I met a guy who had full face tattoos like maori style.. but he wasnt maori at all.. lol which was kinda funny.. but you couldnt really tell anyway because you were kinda scared to look at him. lol. But it made me just think he must really love their culture and style you know... and I was told that he had met a few maori's who didnt mind because they looked at it in that way too. I think because he did the whole thing and not just alittle. But I dont know if they all think of it in that way.

On the flip side, who hates tattoos and thinks they are bad?

Me and Syd don't like Maori tattoo. laugh.gif
Imo 8/10 tattoos are really tacky and artless.
but I've seen some good ones.
Of course, the majority of people with tatts want other people to notice; they just don't want to admit it.
It's like when people say "It's not about the money" when it's obvious it "is about the money.."

I have a few tattoos and am getting more done over the next 5 months. I was wondering who has them, and if you wouldn't mind posting some pictures? I love tattoos and am always interested in seeing other's people's ink and getting ideas.

On the flip side, who hates tattoos and thinks they are bad?

I'll attach some pics of mine.

Sure tatoos r great now...but what u gonna do when they get faded and blurred(and they will)? IMO tatoos r a BAD idea...Some say its an expression of art, but what kind of art will u be expressing 20 years from now? TATOOS r PERMANENT! You cant wash them off, u can have them removed, but is expensive and leaves a bad scar. Dont be fooled into getting a tatoo coz later in life u will most likely regrett it sad.gif

Well, I've had my first tattoo for...let's see....15 years, and I don't regret it at all. It still looks pretty good, as I've taken care of it.

I've considered your points, but 20 years from now, I will remember what and who i was when I got the ink. And I hope I'll be the type of person who doesn't think badly of my tattoos or people who have them. It's only skin, after all.

I dont think BADLY of people with tatoos. To each his/her own. IMO i think theyre a bad idea, because most people that get tatoos dont THINK before getting the Tatoo. Those of you who have put alot of thought and feeling in your art, kudos to you original.gif Your the kind of person who has beautiful and meaningful tatoos. I was referring to the "kids" who just go out and get a random tatoo(usually teen girls w/ the "ho target" on their lower back) the ones who get a tatoo just because their friends have 1. These people will regret their actions later in life as they have NOT thought of what they were doing.
As always just my opinion original.gif

Why would you really care what they get, or if its unoriginal, its their body they have to live with it the rest of their life, personally I would get something like that done, specifically because I do tattoos, its the first real known form of tattooing, and it would be an amazing experiance, getting to go through, and seeing how much its evolved, am I a stuck up person for it? its funny how quick you are to judge others on their choices about getting certin tattoos, makes one wonder if your not insecure about yours?

on a lighter note, my major tattoo is the one on my left arm, its a naked demonice chick, it has mist with skull in the mist going over my shoulder...I get alot of heck for it, but its inspired by one of my favorite artists Luis Royo, people usually tag me as being gay for having it but im not...I just feel confortable to have it on, because its not like she has anything any other woman doesnt...I would put up a pic but it doesnt wanna work...

I got the Tattoos done to celebrate my promotion to Spiritual & tactical combat leader of the group.......
I guess my point is that tattoos, if done to celebrate say, your time in the Army, Team etc, is acceptable

I just got my first one a week ago. I have 3 that I know for a fact I want and this was the first. I like them. Mine are special and mean something to me in some way or another. Its just another way of expressing yourself. Though I can see how some would say its ugly, mutating yourself, whatever.

I don't care about the fact that they will be wrinkly and saggy when I'm old, it's my body and if I cared what other people thought I wouldn't have had them done in the first place - so why would I care when I'm old?

I think your foot tat is superb. Its also the kind of tat which wont look to bad when age is against you because it fits so nicely to the shape of your foot.

Nice one

Look around for designs think of things your interested in or like. Or make your own design most tattoo artist can redraw and improve on your own design if your not good at drawing. But be careful when getting letters not in engllish. Try not to get something you may regret tho ive got my ex's name tattooed on my chest.

I am hoping to get one like my avatar it might have too much detail I'm not sure how much it's going to cost I want it on my right lower calf. I's it's too pricey I have a couple of back ups!

My suggestion is take a while thinking about it carefully, and design it yourself (or explain to the tattoo artist what you want, and ask him if he could draw it for you)

I get really irked by the people who just walk into a tattooist and pick one of the wall on the spot. I think it's better to have one that personally means something to you.
