Washington (AP) - Police arrested a man carrying a shotgun outside the Capitol Friday.

Michael S. Gorbey, 38, was charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm, U.S. Capitol Police said.

He was wearing a tactical vest and had a bow in his car, Terrance W. Gainer, the Senate sergeant-at-arms said. Gorbey said he was going to the Supreme Court, Gainer said.

An officer first spotted the man near Union Station, about two blocks from the Capitol. The man's vehicle had wires coming out of the glove box and propane tanks inside, Gainer said.

Police used a robotic camera to see inside the vehicle, then destroyed the suspicious items inside with a powerful water hose.

Proof that gun control laws do NOT work.
The District of Columbia has some of the most draconian gun control laws in the nation. Average citizens cannot legally own any handgun, not even a .22 revolver. Rifles and shotguns are licensed and taxed.
The Gun Control Act of 1968 prohibits convicted felons from owning, possessing or even handling any firearms. Even non-violent felonies such as embezzling prevent firearm ownership or possession.
Yet, here's a convicted felon with a shotgun.
Boy, THAT law worked didn't it?
And still, lawmakers want to heap even more ineffectual gun control laws upon those we already have.
What does work?
Allowing the law-abiding citizens to be armed! Every state in the nation, that has created a system for law-abiding citizens to obtain a license to carry a concealed handgun, has seen a significant reduction in crime.
I carry a concealed handgun every time I go into the city, from my remote home in the Utah desert. If someone threatens my life, they'll find the tables turned in short order.
And that turnabout, my friends, is what makes criminals think twice about preying the average citizen.

Seven pipe bombs with fuses and bomb-making equipment were also found in the apartment after Ivanov sought help in the early hours of the morning.

The building where the professor lives.
Police stumbled upon a bomb-making factory Sunday in the home of a Columbia professor who specializes in the spread of infectious disease - and are investigating whether he and his roommate have terror ties.

Cops evacuated the Brooklyn Heights neighborhood around the Remsen St. home of Michael Clatts, a medical anthropologist, after finding seven pipe bombs fitted with fuses in his flat, police sources said.

The frightening cache was discovered almost by accident - Ivaylo Ivanov, the man living with Clatts, accidentally shot off the tip of his left index finger and sought police help in the street about 1:15 a.m.
