user posted image rAmerican military researchers are working to uncover and harness the most terrifying chemical imaginable: that most primal odor, the scent of fear. Pheromones are chemicals released by animals as signals to their own kind: for sex, for territorial marking, and more. They're often detected in the olfactory membranes. But there's more to pheromones than attraction. Many animals have an alarm pheromone which is used to signal danger; aphids, for example, use it to cause their fellow lice to flee.    Now, the US Army is trying to track down and harness people's smell of fear.  The military has backed a study on the "Identification and Isolation of Human Alarm Pheromones," which "focused on the Preliminary Identification of Steroids of Interest in Human Fear Sweat." The so-called "skydiving protocol" was the researchers' method of choice.  The authors collected sweat, urine, blood, saliva, ECG, respiration, and self-report measures in 20 subjects (n=11 males and n=9 females) before, during, and immediately following their first-time tandem skydive, as well as before, during, and immediately following their running on a treadmill for the same period of time. Measurements between the test (skydive) and control (exercise) conditions were made on consecutive days, each experiment precisely matched to the minute between subjects and between conditions to prevent diurnal confounds. Emotional states were monitored using brief standardized questionnaires. For most of the observed compounds, men showed an increase in the compound emission during acute emotional stress, while women showed either no change or a decrease in emission of the compound.

In a lecture given at a 2007 Congress on Stress, the researchers hint at what their study found: Our findings indicate that there may be a hidden biological component to human social dynamics, in which emotional stress is, quite literally, “contagious." This work piggybacks on a 2002 study by the Ludwig-Boltzmann-Institute for Urban Ethology at the University of Vienna.

It's less worrying than the "Gay Bomb" they were considering as a weapon.

I have no problem with homosexuality but I still wouldn't be too chuffed to be hit with the "Gay Spray" and turned all fruity for a while.
Belle.
What an awful invention - gotta be better than being nuked or shot though.

Of course they're working on fear.
Fear is the only way the American people will succumb to the government so that they can eventually rule over you all with martial law. Think it's a lie? What about the so called "war on terror"?
How about the Patriot Act? That document single handedly removed your civil rights.
That gives the government the ability to break in your house without a warrant and detain you with little to no evidence except for the allegations that you 'may' be a terrorist.
If the government can keep people scared then they'll be able to take you over and eventually have the police state they so desire.
And they're really close.
Another 9/11 type event will trigger it and they'll probably point the finger at Iran.
Then we'll have things like the North American Union and the Amero currency.. which is happening. Why do you think the american and canadian dollar are almost at par? The mexican peso is 10 to the dollar now. It just makes switching to the amero that much easier.
There's alot of evil happening under our noses and no presidential nominee will change that direction... well maybe Ron Paul or Dennis Kucinich. But they don't have a chance... especially with the polls being rigged.
The Elite has you.

Haha, I was thinking the very same thing when I read the title of the article on UM's main page. Human fear however can be more chaotic. If it triggers hallucinations, for example, well, a person who's scared stiff with a gun in their hands can make pretty interesting results.

I concur on behalf of Spark.

The Military has no use for weapons like this, this is more for crowd control or perhaps a new way to torture people.
Its time for you people to get your heads out of the clouds.

Your country is now on your closest allies(Canada's) "Torture list", a list of countries known to torture which also includes Iran, Syria....
Watch this Olbermann clip!

That actually looks more like a list of countries that Canada admires.

Yes we are wonderful.

I don't understand why no one on this subject didn't mention that perhaps the USA might just want to use it on other countries like Iran??

Just more wasted money by our government. War is to be afraid. Besides, that would invoke the flight or fight response. Some would become aggressive. That would be counterproductive to their purposes...one would think. Unless it is used as a means to covertly harm a particular culture and insight them to hysteria, therebye destroying themselves. But such a thing couldn't be done to nuclear capable countries, and all the rest are in the fearful grips of poverty. So really its just a waste of money. Probably take them a few billion dollars to figure that out.

Ahh yes FEAR; mankind's oldest and most powerful emotion, it's also the mind's most destructive. That would make it ultimate weapon in keep'n the masses in check & in control. No wonder they wanna experiment, locate, control and exploit it's secrets.

I wonder why the difference...?

Pheromones are used quite a bit for controlling dog and cat behavior -- mostly to relieve anxiety and compulsive behaviors. This report doesn't surprise me at all.
