Hi all.

I'm having a wierd problem with my laptop and hoping someone can hep me out.

Whilst browsing around UM i will sudenly hear what sounds like a video in the background coming from my speakers . Ive heard this about 6 times in the past week . One such sound was kids laughing and then the sound of breaking glass . Another was like a camera sound when they take pictures you know the old ones ? . Well have each time Ive checked my computer for any pop ups that may have comeup or any adverts that may have appeared but there is nothing there .

My IM accounts were also shut at the time and i hadn't logged into them . So its not an Ad from there either . The topics i was reading at the time had no link attachments either .

Is it possible that some programme is running somewhere on my computer that i can't see . I have tried restarting. closing down . shutting down everything in my tray at the bottom but its still occuring at least once a day, The last time it occured i was not using the computer and just had it on desktop, no programmes running at all. and music starts playing but nothing i have on my computer sounded like bagpipes hmm.gif it lasted aound 10 seconds and then a voice said Dont worry and it stopped.

I just cant figure this one out alone . and it is getting a little annoying that i cant find the programme or video /ad whatever is responsible . Quite often if i have left some programme running my computer wont shut down but its been doing that ffine too .

Thanks SS79

Have you scanned for viruses, trojans and other mal-ware? If not just make sure they're all as up to date as possible before you scan. I hope that helps. Blessed be!

I use this:

http://www.mlin.net/StartupCPL.shtml

It finds crap running that CTR+ALT+DEL doesn't.

Other than that it could be radio signals.

I know that with some of my older headphones and speakers (5 years or so) I could hear faint music and talking...other than those two suggestions I have no idea.

Try ad-aware or avg anti spyware (www.grisoft.com), also download avg anti root kit . Remember to disable norton when running these scans.

This should get rid of most malware.

Do the strange sounds stop if you physically disconnect your computer from it's internet connection?

Once the voices start i cant disconnect as they only last five to ten seconds (ish) each and i dont get chance fast enough .

I am on wireless broadband so if my comp is turned on. then its automatically connected to the internet . i havent had it offline for a while so wouldnt know if it would happen while im offline or not . but i will try that out tomorrow too .

thanks all of you . thumbsup.gif

if you will go to the start menu and then go to run type msconfig in the run window and hit ok, this will show you every program that is starting when you start the computer simply uncheck the item to turn it off and reboot I suggest turning off everything that you dont know what it is and reboot the computer.
