A ,man fed up with his job, wife, responsibility wants to end it all... He goes to a local gunshop and buys a cheap handgun, nothing fancy. He practices with the gun for a couple weeks thinking of a proper way to kill himself. He sees a balloon and gets an idea. He goes to a park one night with 20 helium filled balloons. He sits down on a bench and ties the balloons to his gun and brings it to his forehead. He shoots himself and the balloons float away with the gun never to be seen again...

This was a episode on C.S.I. -Las Vegas a couple of years ago.
The balloons carried the gun away but the balloons deflated and the gun floated down in another part of town.

Ther were quite a few urban legends re-written into a episodes.
One of them was: Scuba diver found with all his gear on, dead up in a tree in a forest, far away from any ocean.
That urban legend continues with a forest fire was being put out with a helicopter with a huge 'water basket carrier,' that sucked the scuba diver in when it was being filled from the air and then dropped on top of some burning trees.
The C.S.I. episode did a little twist with that story.

as long as the helium balloon is lighter than the air it displaces, the balloon will float in the air....I can see 20 balloons carrying a lightweight gun....but I could be wrong...

Balloons can be bought in different sizes.

I own many handguns. It would take an extraordinary number of balloons, and a very out-of-the-ordinary light weight handgun to be able to be wafted away by balloons!

This myth was busted on 'Mythbusters' a 4 years ago. The basket has a grate on top and the hole at the bottom is too small to be sucked out.
There are other methods to put out fires and they also were busted in the myth.
I'm not saying it didn't happen, it might of happen long ago maybe before these kinds of bucket were invented, if so.

Back to the "Scuba diver in a tree" topic for a second, they only tried the long tube thing because that is the only way that they take water up into an aircraft to drop on forest fires. They don't use any kind of bag or large bucket of any type that they have to either drag across the surface or dunk into the water to fill. the only method used is sucking it up though a big tube, which, like on mythbusters, has a grated filter over the end to keep from sucking up fish/plants/junk. No way is that story even possible.
