I can't link any sources because of the sites involved and the language used in the messages that are being distributed...I'll try to attach an edited version.

PS. I'm not flame baiting...I couldn't figure out where to put this...the existing threads on his death seem inappropriate, General discussion is a little too general...so here it is.

Edit: whoops, forgot to delete the website on the attachment...fixed.

Probably because he stared in Brokeback Mountain. Fred and crew hate (and I mean hate) gays.

If they protest this funeral, it's going to be UGLY.

Those are roles he played do they not know the difference between reality and movies. What am I saying of course they have no sense of reality rolleyes.gif , No one deserves to be booed at their funeral its truly disrespectful to them and most of all their family, Always a pleasure

it's irrelevant whether it was a role or not---there's nothing wrong with homosexuality. Every sexually behaving species on this planet engages in both kinds of sexual behavior. Humans are no exception.

I do not support gays, but that does not mean i hate them. everyone deserves a fair funeral. The westboro baptis church is what i call the "Stereotipas" which are one of the causes of religous stereotypes.

Its not their choice. They don't have a choice to choose what sexual stance they take. Homosexuality is linked with biology.

QUOTE

Then you shouldn't support heterosexuals either. Because the way homosexual and heterosexual tendency arises is the same thing. All you do is have to ask a homosexual person, and you can tell. They don't choose the way they are no more than a heterosexual person chooses it. No one in their right mind would choose to go through the constant bashing and berating that homosexuals go through in their every day life.

My bisexual girlfriend Morgie said it was a choice.

Edit: and just because i do not support homosexuals does not mean i do not accept them as people and let them into our society. I have my beliefs of what homosexuality is, you have yours, just because i believe it is a choice does not mean i dont care for them. dont be quick to judge. I became Bi out of a habbit. i chose to be bi, and slowly i am getting myself out of the habbit.

It doesn't matter if you believe its a choice. Its still linked to genetic differences, and is therefore not a choice.

Morgie is a bisexual, not a homosexual. I would suggest you read some scientific journals in relation to homosexuality. Since your in high school, perhaps take a psychology class. If your teacher is knowledgeable he/she would be able to tell you experiments that have been done on the brain to support this.

Of course, everyone can make a choice to pick a sexual orientation, like your girlfriend. A heterosexual can choose to pursue a homosexual or bisexual experience, but that does not mean the person is homosexual or bisexual, because they are doing just that, choosing to do it. Sexual orientation is demonstrated as an act that cannot be chosen.

The American Psychological Association would also beg to differ...
"No, human beings can not choose to be either gay or straight. Sexual orientation emerges for most people in early adolescence without any prior sexual experience. Although we can choose whether to act on our feelings, psychologists do not consider sexual orientation to be a conscious choice that can be voluntarily changed."

Okay, here's the deal with the Westboro Baptist "Church"

Fred Phelps is the leader of the 71 person family that comprises the "church." He is a dictator, and has alienated and isolated as many family members as he can, who he has brainwashed (by abuse and tyranny) into believing they are doing god's work by hating.

They have been taught that Fred Phelps is the only one who has been able to correctly interpret the Bible, and that he has interpreted it as meaning God is a vengeful, wrathful god, and that homosexuality and the acceptance of it is dooming the entire world to eternal damnation. They think that by protesting and causing a commotion they are achieving the spreading of God's word, and they have been taught that when people hate them, they should see that as a sign of success.

Anyone who ever cracked open a psychology book can see what's going on here, but the family members who have been victimized by Phelps and his hateful garbage have had no other way of life, and they have been successfully conditioned by him and his years of abuse. He was born in 1929, he's freaking 78 years old, maybe when he kicks it, the family will be able to break free from their prison. Maybe not. Either way, we should feel sorry for them, they don't know what they are doing.

They protest and have disgusting signs and yell obscenities at the most sacred of events. But sticks and stones, people...they can't really hurt us unless we let them.

Hating them makes them think they are right. I choose to pity them.

I'm assuming he's going to be buried in Western Australia, I hope if they try to picket they'll be kicked out of the country.

Weird Sex Laws

No man is allowed to make love to his wife with the smell of garlic, onions, or sardines on his breath in Alexandria, Minnesota. If his wife so requests, law mandates that he must brush his teeth.
Warn your hubby that after lovemaking in Ames, Iowa, he isn't allowed to take more than three gulps of beer while lying in bed with you-or holding you in his arms.

Bozeman, Montana, has a law that bans all sexual activity between members of the opposite sex in the front yard of a home after sundown-if they're nude. (Apparently, if you wear socks, you're safe from the law!)

During lunch breaks in Carlsbad, New Mexico no couple should engage in a sexual act while parked in their vehicle, unless their car has curtains.

In Cleveland, Ohio women are not allowed to wear patent-leather shoes.

Clinton, Oklahoma has a law against masturbating while watching two people having sex in a car.

It's safe to make love while parked in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. Police officers aren't allowed to walk up and knock on the window. Any suspicious officer who thinks that sex is taking place must drive up from behind, honk his horn three times and wait approximately two minutes before getting out of his car to investigate. [Hmmm... okay, there's one place with a law that makes sense... -psl]

In Connorsville, Wisconsin no man shall shoot off a gun while his female partner is having a sexual orgasm.

In Detroit, couples are not allowed to make love in an automobile unless the act takes place while the vehicle is parked on the couple's own property.

A law in Fairbanks, Alaska does not allow moose to have sex on city streets.

In Florida it is illegal for single, divorced, or widowed women to parachute on Sunday afternoons.

In Harrisburg, Pennsylvania it is illegal to have sex with a truck driver inside a toll booth.

The owner of every hotel in Hastings, Nebraska, is required to provide each guest with a clean and pressed nightshirt. No couple, even if they are married, may sleep together in the nude. Nor may they have sex unless they are wearing one of these clean, white cotton nightshirts.

Another law in Helena, Montana, mandates that a woman can't dance on a table in a saloon or bar unless she has on at least three pounds, two ounces of clothing.

A state law in Illinois mandates that all bachelors should be called master, not mister, when addressed by their female counterparts.

An excerpt from brilliant Kentucky state legislation. "No female shall appear in a bathing suit on any highway within this state unless she be escorted by at least two officers or unless she be armed with a club".

The following important amendment however is to be considered here: "The provisions of this statute shall not apply to females weighing less than 90 pounds nor exceeding 200 pounds, nor shall it apply to male horses."

In Kingsville, Texas there is a law against two pigs having sex on the city's airport property.

Any couple making out inside a vehicle, and accidentally sounding the horn during their lustful act, may be taken to jail according to a Liberty Corner, New Jersey law.

In Los Angeles, California, a man is legally entitled to beat his wife with a leather belt or strap, but the belt can't be wider than 2 inches, unless he has his wife's consent to beat her with a wider strap. Consent should be given prior to the event, as is carefully stipulated. [Not to be confused with the myth about "rule of thumb"'s origin -psl]

In Maryville, Missouri, women are prohibited from wearing corsets because "The privilege of admiring the curvaceous, unencumbered body of a young woman should not be denied to the normal, red-blooded American male."

In Michigan, a woman isn't allowed to cut her own hair without her husband's permission.

In Nevada sex without a condom is considered illegal.

An ordinance in Newcastle, Wyoming, specifically bans couples from having sex while standing inside a store's walk-in meat freezer!

In Norfolk, Virginia, a woman can't go out without wearing a corset. (There was a civil-service job-for men only-called a corset inspector.)

In Oblong, Illinois, it's punishable by law to make love while hunting or fishing on your wedding day.

In Oxford, Ohio, it's illegal for a woman to strip off her clothing while standing in front of a man's picture.

In hotels in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, every room is required to have twin beds. And the beds must always be a minimum of two feet apart when a couple rents a room for only one night. And it's illegal to make love on the floor between the beds!

A Tremonton, Utah law states that no woman is allowed to have sex with a man while riding in an ambulance. In addition to normal charges, the woman's name will be published in the local newspaper. The man does not receive any punishment.

Utah state legislation outlaws all sex with anyone but your spouse. Next to that adultery, oral and *spam filter*, masturbation are considered sodomy and can lead to imprisonment. Sex with an animal - unless performed for profit - however is NOT considered sodomy. Polygamy - provided only the missionary position has been applied - is only a misdemeanor

how a sex act differes in sentancening when straight compared to gay

In February of 2000, Limon and another male teenager were both students at the same residential school for developmentally disabled youth in Miami County, Kansas. A week after Limon's 18th birthday, he performed consensual oral sex on the other teenager, who was nearly 15 years old - three years, one month and a few days younger. Because Kansas's so-called ""Romeo and Juliet"" law gives much lighter sentences to heterosexual teenagers who have sex with younger teens but specifically excludes gay teenagers, Limon was sentenced to 17 years in prison. A heterosexual teenager with the same record would serve no longer than 15 months for the same offense.

After the Kansas Court of Appeals upheld the conviction in January, the Kansas Supreme Court agreed to hear the case on August 31. The ACLU had taken Limon's case back to the lower court after the U.S. Supreme Court ordered the court to reconsider the matter in light of the Supreme Court's decision last summer in Lawrence v. Texas, which struck down all same-sex-only sodomy laws.

More than likely there will be a public or semi-public Memorial service in the USA, those are probably the ones Fred and his gang of dolts will picket. I rather doubt that they will go all the way to Australia, but I'd love it if they did and got their ridiculous little butts thrown into jail. That would be awesome.

Men like Fred Phelps make me believe that surely there is no justice in this world of ours.
Wolf MacCanine

As much as Fred Phelps hates gays,I'm beginning to think that at some point in his life he noticed that he had gay tendencies and went so deep into the closet that it warped his mind as he tried to fight what his body wanted naturally.

That would explain a lot. grin2.gif

Funny you mention calling bacholers master, Every since my son was born when she mails or gives him a card ect. She adresses him as master. We just talked and I told her she did not need to do so. How particularly moronic and rabid to go and picket a straight mans funeral.

Why do people obsess about one tiny part of the Bible? They should be helping people in need.

Oh and Red Pill I agree that in some circles bisexuality can be considered 'cool' particularly between girls at high school and uni. Most of it is just pretension. If it's a 'choice' I'd go with pretension.
Watchful
I wouldn't put it past this group to try to fly to Australia to picket his funeral. According to what I read on Wikipedia, they were invited to Iraq years ago, by Saddam Hussain, and they went. Yet when Hussain fell and was hanged, they now condemn him and say he's burning in Hell.
In fact, anyone who dies, they condemn and thank God for their death and want to picket their funeral. Always after they died, and at their funeral, when the dead cannot defend themselves. That speaks to me of them being cowards.

A church group has vowed to protest Heath Ledger’s funeral because of his starring role in the hit film, Brokeback Mountain.

Reverend Fred Phelps's from the Westboro Baptist Church (surprise surprise)..has allegedly produced a flyer urging people to “picket” the actors funeral because of his involvement in the Academy Award winning flick - which tells the story of a sexual relationship between two men in the American West from 1963 to 1983.

The distasteful flyer reads: ”Yes! WBC will picket this pervert's funeral, in religious protest and warning.” huh.gif

The leaflet ends with a damning statement, about the actors tragic and untimely death.

”Heath Ledger is now in hell” it conintues. rolleyes.gif “[He] has begun serving his eternal sentence there - beside which, nothing else about Heath Ledger is rerevant or consequential."

The 28-year-old actor was found dead at 3.30pm on Tuesday, at his Manhattan home.

His naked body was discovered in his bed by a housekeeper, who called 911 after failing to rouse the actor.

NYPD sources say that Ledger was in full cardiac arrest when paramedics arrived on the scene.

Tragically, attempts to administer CPR were unsuccessful and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

I can't believe Heath Ledger is dead, he was one of my favorite actors, its so sad that he's gone, as far as the Westboro Baptist Church is concerned they can go burn in hell if there happens to be one, I would love nothing more then to bash the pastors head against a brick wall...sorry but what they do is so disrespectful, gods help me if I ever come across them...its only a movie and if they didn't like it they don't have to watch it, no one has a gun to their head...sorry im ranting but this is very upsetting...

These idiots would protest a used car lot if it sold a pink car, because it might be ho-mo-sex-shul. Just ignore them and truly they will eventually go away.

I think everyone should picket the Westboro Church - day and night, chanting what a bunch of freaks they are.

I would doubt they'd be able to get close to the funeral since the amount of publicity this story has got. I saw the Louis Theroux documentary on these people, it showed them chanting very close to a funeral of an American soldier - they're wicked, wicked people IMO.

Louis said that a car had stopped near a picket and a girl asked what they were doing as it was her fathers funeral - a lady told her "well your father is in Hell sweetie". disgust.gif

I was raised in a Christian faith and am SO glad I wasn't in one of those groups that feel they have to protest every damn thing that they don't agree with! I've NEVER understood these types of people; who feel they have to stand on the street and yell hateful things at people. I understand the Bible has guidelines against certain things, and if you're going to follow them in accord with your faith, fine. You have that right. But there's no need to protest and shove your personal opinions and feelings down the throats of others! I don't agree with abortion, I view the fetus as a human being from conception. So, for me, having an abortion would feel like murder. But do I go stand in front of Planned Parenthood with signs saying "You're going to Hell!" (which I don't believe in, anyway), or "You're a murderer!"?? No!! What does that really accomplish? Nothing except make you, the protester, more entrenched in your hatefulness. These WBC people are a joke to the rest of Christianity, and I sincerely hope that one day they encounter just as much hate as they have been putting out. And I pray their children see how horrible their brand of 'religion' is as they get older, and get away from it.

Um how can you not agree with what homosexuals do but have a GF who’s bi? Sort of a double standard isn’t it? It is just the gay guys that bother you or that you think girls having sex with girls is ok?

I saw the Louis Theroux documentary on these people, it showed them chanting very close to a funeral of an American soldier - they're wicked, wicked people IMO.

Louis said that a car had stopped near a picket and a girl asked what they were doing as it was her fathers funeral - a lady told her "well your father is in Hell sweetie". disgust.gif

I'm dating a guy in the Army, and if it ever got to the point that I was going to his funeral with our child, and these morons said something like that to my kid, I WOULD NOT be responsible for my actions! I believe the phrase, 'seeing red', would be extremely applicable in that situation! It's bad enough saying something like that to a grieving adult, who though very hurt, would be able to realize that they didn't know what they were talking about; but to say that to a child that's just lost her father and probably doesn't fully understand what's going on and why they're saying that? That, to me, is one of the most disgusting things you could do. mad.gif

Just ignore them and truly they will eventually go away.

If the media would quit giving them the attention that they crave, they might figure out that people don't care what they say.Unfortunately,as long as they get publicity, they will continue to think that they'll be able to get others to join them in their hatred of everything that they do not agree with.

I think everyone should picket the Westboro Church - day and night, chanting what a bunch of freaks they are.

That is one idea, although I think they'd take everyone involved to court. They strike me as the hypocritical type who will pitch a fit if their "rights" are being denied...while they're still free to do the same thing to others.I kinda think that's just the type of action they'd be waiting for someone to do.
Watchful
I think it is a sound idea to just ignore them, and hope they go away. Unfortunately, they make their own media, and really go out of their way to do it. Anyone who goes along with their ideas, and they are their friends and will be supported by this church group. But once you go against what they do, any inkling you do not support them, and once you are dead, then they are tauting the fortunes of your death and proclaiming your in Hell, all over their website. I have seen that too often with them.

It's not that Heath Ledger was a straight actor playing a gay character in a movie, I'm sure they know it. It's that he played such a character in the first place. The way I think their minds are like is that even portraying such a character is supporting it, and your hated by their god. What really shows me how disgusted I am at them, and how cowardly I see them is that they are not having hissy fits for Jake Gyllenhaal, and didn't he play a gay character too? Maybe it's because he's still alive and can defend himself and sue their pants off?!?!

I do want assure someone who wishes that the children of these people are going to wise up and leave, I did read, that four of the many children of Phelps have left them in distaste and have said in the media how wrong they see their father.

Very likely. What needs to happen is for Heath's fans to line up between the protestors and the memorial line to and block them. IF they keep getting blocked, maybe they will start leaving well enough alone.
MissMelsWell
Actually, blocking them makes it worse... Phelps was a civil rights attorney once upon a time ago... he was disbarred. He's first and foremost bitter about that more than anything I'd be willing to bet.

Thank GOD! I'm glad to know that at least some of them realize how wrong he is..... I just hope more of them come to realize it, too. I think if enough of his family/group left him, he'd lose a lot of his 'power' <----(what little he has).

Phelps was an idiot, though he knows the law inside and out and all the little loopholes he and his slimey, pathetic excuse for a congregation can weasle their way around. He got disbarred because when he was cross examening a woman be basically went on a rant about how this woman was a total **** and a whore, using very graphic language, and the judge said enough was enough and after a hearing before a panel Phelps got disbarred, the worst thing that could happen to a lawyer.
I hope theres a hell, because I know Fred Phelps will go there. His actions are an abomination against the Christian Church. Fortunately the vast vast majority of Christian denominations have condemned Fred Phelps actions, and I am happy they did so. I think if theres one thing Athiests, Christians, Muslims, Pagans, etc can agree on its that Fred Phelps is a controling, manipulative, bitter old man whose reprehensible antics will likely one day land him on the butt end of an butt kicking.

Now, let's not forget this is the same church who picketed a few soldiers funeral's a while back because they had reason to believe they were gay a couple in fact were (but they still had no right to do so). What happened to the old quote from the bible "Do on to others as you would have them do on to you" or something to that effect (my parent's liked this quote and used it a bit on me, it has still stuck with me to this day)? I thought they were supposed to abide by this rule too or are they "special"? How would they feel if we picketed one of their loved one's funeral? mad.gif They all need to step back (also re-read their bible because I'm very sure it does not say "Thou shalt picket one's funeral who is homosexual") and think how it would feel to be in the other people's shoes (which is another very good thing my parent's taught me and that I'm passing on to my kids).
disgust.gif And btw, I also think they need to grow up a bit so that they can tell just what is reality and what is just a movie, Heath was not gay.

You know, I wouldn't blame you - I could feel the anger welling up watching these freaks. I was pleased by the amount of people who stopped and gave them a mouthful.

It was uncomfortable viewing.

Hrrm.. Picket their church... Not a bad idea.. I'd like to go a step further.. Why don't we all go picket at one of their members' funerals when one of them passes? They have something against gays, or anyone who they find unsuitable? Well, I have something against CRACKPOTS who use hatred.. I have a thing against cultists who are sick enough to invade a family's grief with picket signs and yelling, using someone's tragedy against them. I have a right to protest... And they certainly should't mind, since that is one of their own common practices.. right? Anyone care to join me?

I usually try to keep my anger under control, and I'm usually a very docile person.. But, if ANYone went to the funeral of someone I cared for and told that person's child that their father/mother went to hell.. let's just say, hell hath no fury...

I really don't understand why the church is against homosexuals so much. Aren't they a product of Gods creation or something, so it would be unfair to cast them out unsure.gif

If I lived in that part of the states, trust me, I'd be right there with you!! I'm on the West coast, though. If you ever do it, though, you better believe we'll want a full report and pictures! grin2.gif

At least they (this "church") haven't tried to BE God and kill homosexuals themselves. That's ONE thing to be thankful for! To extremists, homosexuality is an abomination, one which God cannot tolerate, since God made woman for man to have as a companion. But, it's also written that one should judge not, lest YE be judged. I guess they like to forget that part.
