Funny you should say that jaks. There is evidence to suggest that roads which historians had previously thought built by the romans(such as the foss way), were actually in existence when the romans arrived. Which begs the question of who built them? The barbarian Britons?

I'm telling you, the britons are more than they are given credit for, I'm not sure if the anglo saxons came first or the vikings (though I'm pretty sure it was the anglo saxons) but we have a hell of a lot of history before the romans stepped here tongue.gif ...lol...

Bones and flint tools found in Norfolk and Suffolk show that Homo erectus lived in what is now England around 700,000 years ago.[16] At this time, England was linked to mainland Europe by a large land bridge. The current position of the English Channel was a large river flowing westwards and fed by tributaries that would later become the Thames and the Seine. This area was greatly depopulated during the period of the last major ice age, as were other regions of the British Isles. In the subsequent recolonisation, after the thawing of the ice, genetic research shows that present-day England was the last area of the British Isles to be repopulated,[17] circa 13,000 years ago. The migrants arriving during this period contrast with the other of the inhabitants of the British Isles, coming across land from the south east of Europe, whereas earlier arriving inhabitants came north along a coastal route from Iberia. These migrants would later adopt the Celtic culture that came to dominate much of western Europe.

I dunno but I was talking about the presence of anglo saxons before the presence of romans in england, not before or after the fall of the roman empire...*shrugs*...

1.6 - There is no post opening this thread, so I'm hazarding a guess we are talking about what went down before Romans invaded Britain. Here's a good Wiki article on Ancient Britain Pre Roman times. Seems pre Roman Britain was very successful and advanced in it's lifestyle. We know now that the Celtic Druid high priests did not build Stonehenge so it was most likely Neolithic people for whatever reason. If they can build Stonehenge they could build anything...........
