Hi Legend K - thanks for your list. wavey.gif

My very favourite actor now is Johnny Depp - but I must confess it's that he's such a great guy that swings it for me. Check this out:

Johnny Depp secretly visited Great Ormond Street Hospital yesterday to donate £1 million of his own money to thank staff for saving his daughter’s life.
He arrived unexpectedly at the London children’s hospital where eight-year-old Lily-Rose was treated last year when her kidneys failed.

Last week he invited five Great Ormond Street doctors and nurses to the party for the London premiere of his film Sweeney Todd.

And on November 29, unknown to the public, Depp spent four hours at the hospital telling bedtime stories to patients dressed as Captain Jack Sparrow after having his Pirates Of The Caribbean costume flown over from Los Angeles.

In March last year, Lily-Rose spent nine days at Great Ormond Street after E.coli poisoning led to the failure of her kidneys.

Not only did he donate, invite the Doctors and Nurses to the Premiere of Sweeny Todd, but he had his Captain Jack suit flown over to read to the kids!!

Don't care how good looking he is or how good an actor he is - I HOPE HE WINS THE OSCAR!!

I think I'd probably have George Clooney somewhere on my list too wink2.gif also Al Pacino, Robert DeNiro and Jack Nicholson too. I also love Dustin Hoffman.

wacko.gif

my opinion is my own and I think that was a kind thing to do. I'm sure the kids appreciated it.

Hey, look, the grand gesture was cool, along with the cash & his visit, must have lifted spirits & purchased much need kit..But... this doesn't mean my point is not valid....

A big star like Depp is unable to do low key, because of who he is, so why bother doing the whole "its a secret visit" when he full knows everyones gonna know......i think its a case of "oh i do alot for charity, but i don't wanna talk about it"
goalienan
My favorites are Tommy Lee Jones, Al Pacino, Denzel Washington and I too love Dustin Hoffman....Just watched "Rainman" again last night...and my all time favorite "Tootsie"......

No, I'm hoping to go next weekend. Tim Burton is just fab. Have you seen it?

I don't care if there were ulterior motives behind what he did, I only have your own opinion for that Syd. Strip it bare for what it was, imagine you're an 8 year old kid watching that - it would be amazing.

Affliction
Most of those actors all make terrible, generic movies. I guess it is to be expected, key word being 'Hollywood' here.
Belle.

I agree for most of them and they are all really...........old! laugh.gif tongue.gif
Affliction
Well that too! I don't know much about any of these actors but they seem to be all American?
Regency
Arnold is from Austria and Mel Gibson is from Australia.

As for #8 Bruce Willies ohmy.gif

Hehee, I'll always think of him as Bruce Willies from this day on.

the sky is falling!
Great list! If you don't mind me asking, how long have you been studying english? Just from movies? It's quite good.

Wow! You have quite a collection of movie there original.gif I wish I had 400 movies, I love them aswell.
Since I pretty much agree on your entire list as the top 10 (give or take spot placement), I'll just give you my opinions instead of making a new one for myself happy.gif

#10 Arnold Schwarzenegger.
who is my hero, never loose, saving ppl's lives, terminating evils.i personally believe that "HE WILL BE BACK!".sad news is chinese girls don't like'm.

Hah, Arnold original.gif Terminator 1 & 2 are some of my favorite movies of all time. Classics. One of the coolest action actors, if not the coolest. (Jean-Claude Van Damme is also one of my favorite action movie actors. My favorite would probably be Jet Li in Fist of Legend. Great movie. And we can't forget Jackie Chan! He seems like such a nice person, I would love to meet him. I love martial art movies. They are my favorite action movies; and Jet Li, Van damme, and Jacky Chan are my favorites.)

QUOTE
#9 Mel Gibson
one of the chinese women's Favorite, his <brave heart> is still quite populor in china.

Brave Heart is such an amazing movie. Mel Gibson might have been getting kind of crazy lately, but he is one hell of a director and actor. I loved him in Mad Max and Road Warrior (which was known else where as Mad Max 2).

QUOTE
#8 Bruce Willies
another chinese girls' dream lover,he's considered a standard sexy American man.not by me,by girls.i like his <Tears of the sun> the best.

I'm enjoying seeing what the chinese girls percieve as the "sexy men" in American movies. I never really knew, so it's kind of helping me see things from anothers perspective and letting me compare what American girls like to what Chinese girls thing is attractive.

Bruce is a very cool guy. My favorite movie of his would have to be Pulp Fiction, not because his acting was best in it, but just because that is my favorite movie with him in it.

QUOTE
#7 Tom Cruise
when i was in middle school half of the girls in my school were willing to die for him.i like his <MI-1>.

Hah, I'm pretty sure that was a world wide thing original.gif He has quite a fan base. (Less now so after he kind of went whacky.)
Wow, I just learned that Tom Cruise has a "Tom Cruise Day" in Japan lol. October 10, 2006. Because he has visited there more times than any other Hollywood star. Never knew that...

I really enjoyed his acting in Magnolia. I thought he played a very compelling part, especially during the interview. Amazing actor.

QUOTE
#6 Tommy Lee Jones
one of my favorite actor,he got no girls' attention but i like'm.I like his <Heaven and Earth>.

All around very good actor. I really enjoyed him and Will Smith in Men in Black. I really want to watch his new movie No Country for Old Men.

QUOTE
#5 Al Pacino
in my eyes he's a very hard man with a hard face.i like his <Scent of a Woman>.

One word. Scarface.

QUOTE
#4 Michael Douglas
in my eyes he is the standard american man,i like his speaking in movies, very clear, not like Sylvester Stallone-sounds like he can't handle his tongue well.i like his <Don't say a word>.

Hah yeah Sylvester Stallone doesn't have the best speech. I think he has a speech problem though, so its not really his fault; he can't help it. I definately wouldn't want to be trying to learn English by watching a Rocky movie laugh.gif

Michael Douglas is also quite a director. See his movie One Flew Over a Coo-Coos Nest.

QUOTE
#3 Denzle Washionton
great actor, the only pitty is he's too goodlooking.i like his <John Q> the best.

Hah, I never thought someone could ever be too good looking original.gif Really really good actor, very consistant. I liked him in Training Day.

QUOTE
#2 Morgan Freeman
perfect actor in my eyes,i like all his movies,<Shaushank Redemption> would be my favorite.

You're correct, he is the perfect actor. Shawshank Redemption is the perfect movie. He is a very bright actor.

QUOTE
#1 Tom Hanks

I knew this was coming happy.gif Tom Hanks is my favorite actor as well and I agree with you 100%. He becomes the person he is playing in every role, couldn't ask for any better of an actor than him. Tom Hank is the man. Very nice and polite as well, which I like.

A few actors I would like to include is:

Jack Nicholson - Very VERY good actor. Definately deserves to be in any top 10 list. He was great in One Flew Over a Coo-Coos Nest and of course, The Shining. (One of the scariest movies of all time. He is a very scary guy when he wants to be.)
Johnny Depp - Very very good character actor. Definately one of the best. I really liked him in Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas and in Blow.
Will Smith - I just like this guy. Very polite, great guy. Very good actor as well.
Jake Gyllenhal - I'm a Donnie Darko fanboy, what can I say blush.gif He is also becoming quite an actor, definately going to be seeing him putting out really good movies for many many years.
Hah, thanks for reminding me almost forgot about Robert DeNiro . Great actor!

Thanks for the post, and we appreciate you being a member. I haven't been posting here for very long either though, but I enjoy this forum aswell. So much so that I've quit posting in other forums happy.gif

Wow, I didn't know Johnny Depp was such a great guy! Hearing about all that makes me like him that much more as an actor. He definately just went up quite a few notches in my book. I can't believe he even read to the kids! In his costume! That's such a great thing to do. I hope he wins the Oscar aswell.

Someone got sh** in their Wheaties this morning..

Would you have rather he made an even bigger scene of it? I'm sure if he did, people like you would be flaming him that much more. Am I right? Of course I am.

Quite a few on that list are amazing actors. Tom Hanks, Morgan Freeman, Denziel, Al Pachino.. If you know anything whatsoever about movies, then you should be able to respect all of these guys.
Affliction
I just realized...how can you have a top 10 actors list without Clint Eastwood?!?!

Insanity!

They may be all right actors, but they are hardly pushing boundaries in the medium. There isn't much artistic value to remaining stationary.

Obviously, Johnny knew it would get out, so no, it was not going to stay a secret, but, he did it without any publicity. If he was in it for anything but the kids, he would have called the press, and had a photo op as well as tonnes of screaming fans waiting outside the doors. That is the problem with being a celebrity, things will get out. But, for the caliber of his celebrity, I would say that he did really well with keeping it a secret until after the fact. What a great guy! We need more celebrities like him, sharing back into the community.

first thanx for everyones replying,u all made beautiful ones.

that's only my personal view of poit, maenwhile that TOP10 dosen't fully tells my personal favorates.i'll list'em.

thank regency for replying, really sorry but i don't know who is Johnny Depp. tongue.gif
and #3 i totally understand you cos i experienced the same thing.but the favor is please let this thread stay survive, i'm not here puting a fire.
legend-k
to :"the sky is falling!"

thanx for your great reply i can see that u also love movies.
i began to study english since highschool and my major was english in college.i spoke terrible chinglish till i picked up my current job--a guide.i still do but not 2 bad.one thing for sure is watching movies helps me a lot on commanding language.well that's a long story i think we'd better get back to the point till it's getting too far.

about arnold,i acturely like his <the last action hero>, a tipical Hollywood style legend story.Jet lee and Jcakie Chan they r doing good in china but im getting tired of Kungfu action a bit.and many chinese do 2. ppl all like new experience.and Steven Seagle is also my action hero but he's getting 2 old for being personally acting in a movie.

Mel Gibson is a great actor but not my favorate.i set up this countdown basically according to the midea info in china and also like to show u ppl what is Hollywood in chinese ppl's eyes.i would say Rober Deniro instead,he's one of my favorate i like his <Heat> the best,i think that movie was just for Al Pacino and him.

like Mel Gibson Bruce is not my favorate neither,i'd say Kevin Costner in stead.i like <the untouchables>,too many super stars in it.

same thing happens on Tom Cruise again, mine is Dustin Hoffman,<Rainman> of course.

Tommy Lee Jones is ok, i like'm 2.<the client>is another very impressive movie.

i only have 10 positions here meanwhile i'd like to make ppl know about what does Hollywood looks like in china that's how and why that list was made.personally i'd like to add Jack Nicholson, but i prefer <the shining>,that <nest>one u mentioned is wellknown but i cna't really understand,Robbin Williams,i extremelly enjoy <good morning vietnam>,Sean Connery and i like <the name of rose> better,Ben kingsley <House of Sand and Fog>,Anthony Hopkings <Drecula>,
Micheal Caine <The silent American> and Clint Eastwood,i very much like his <absolute power>.

well once again i wanna explain that this list is just for fun not official position,u r absolutely welcomed to add your Nominations here.thanx.
