I am just wondering, as I didn't see any warnings from a moderator.
One person may have said something that could have been taken as inappropriate by others, but I think it was dealt with, and the points made by that particular poster were valid and on topic.
I think the opinion of the OP and those opposed to his views should both have the right to express their opinions on it, and I think that anything that happens in these forums is any one's business, since these are forums, not private messages.
Why was that thread closed?

Anyone that starts a thread can request that a MOD close it at any time.

Just to point out that it is against forum rules to post a thread like this. I forsee imminent lock down.

Yeah, if you start a thread you can request for it to be locked at any moment. Irish started that, and was a mod, so he did it himself. Plus like he said, it was headed for a flamefest.
Save your dignity and request that this be locked before they do it for you!

And the reason was noted before I closed it, its unfortunate it had to come down to it.
