Full Version: Please Help Me Invent a New Word ...

Hi everyone:

I am trying a bold experiment. I have invented a new word, and I am starting a campaign to see if I can "inject" it into the English language, and eventually have the word accepted as a "real" word.

I want my new word to be used by all English speaking people around the world. My new word is "radamazing." It's a combination of the words "radical" and "amazing" and generally means that something is spectacularly good or terrific.

For example, "Wow, that rock concert was radamazing!"

My inspiration for the word was the recent popularity of the word "ginormous" which has just been accepted into the dictionary. It is a combination of the words "enormous" and "gigantic."

I would ask everyone here to start using my new word, radamazing, as much as they can -- here in posts and in e-mails and in your daily conversations.

I first "innoculated" the Enghlish language with my new word radamazing here:

http://www.ehow.com/how_2186537_invent-new...ome-famous.html

I am going to used advanced search engine techniques to monitor the success of my new word, radamazing, as it proliferates around the world, hopefully.

Please help me make history. Help me invent a new word. Help me get my name in Webster's Dictionary as the creator of the word radamazing.

Thank you.

There are too many spurious words in use already.
As a writer and former journalist, I'm aggravated by it.
Pefectly good words, in long use, are being cast aside or misused.
Take "notoriety" as a synonym for fame, for example. Notoriety means "ill or bad fame," not regular fame. Yet, it continues to be misused.
Irregardless is not a word. The correct word is regardless.
You ensure that something will happen; you go to an insurance company to insure something.
Read the dictionary. Chances are that the word you require is already in there, waiting to be used correctly.
I realize this is an experiment on your part but I'm weary of people creating words because they think it's fun or cute.
English already has far more words than you'll likely need. Learn to use what's already accepted --- and use it correctly.
That's the ol' cat's rant and I'm sticking to it!

I like the idea but radamazing is too difficult to say..

mabey rad-zing.

I think it needs more of a zing original.gif As posted above, I'd try other combinations. I also find it too long.
Good luck!

I also have been a writer and journalist my entire adult life. I got my journalism degree in 1984 and having been working in newspapers and freelancing ever since.

You have to remember that all words were once new words. The term for a new word is "neologism." Even the term neologism is a neologism, having been coined in 1800.

The fact is, the language is in a constant state of change and transformation, and nothing can stop it. We cant just "freeze" things where they are and use all the words we have now forever. New word generation is a vital part of the development of language and creativity.

DAMN IT! Kratos is right -- radamazing has already been coined by others.

Well -- it's back to the drawing board. I will come back here shortly with another neologism. I am determined to get a new word into general usage. After all, everyone needs a hobby.

Okay, how about this: fameroach

A fameroach is a person, such as Paris Hilton, who is famous but does not really deserve to be famous, and who seeks publicity merely for the sake of being famous.

Anyone blatantly seeking publicity for vey little reason is a fameroach.

It's a combination of the words fame and cockroach.

One might say: IronGhost is attempting to invent a new word because he is a fameroach.

mentalman
frameroach is a ramazing word,,,,,,,(cough),,,,,,,,,,,(crying) "I just wanted to be involved!!!!"
crtbud
A fameroach she is indeed.

I like this one much better and I'll begin to inject it into conversation on and offline wink2.gif

Thats what you came up with? "radamazing"... Why not create an entirely new word instead of mashing 2 existing ones together? Like "Sprootunkled". "Look at that dude get totally Sprootunkled!" Now that would be worth bragging about. Or how about "Klaznastic" or "Klaz!" for short... now that I think about it, "klaz" could replace "cool" as we currently know it. thumbsup.gif

I think I've heard fameroach or something like it before.

I like the word, think its great, but makesure its not to simliar to something already out there..
Paranoid Android
My undergrad degree at university contained a word that did not exist in the English language. That word was Theatremaking (one word, no space). And those who completed the degree call ourselves Theatremakers (also no space). The old head of our program was campaigning to get these words into the dictionary. Unfortunately he passed away four years ago as the result of a heart-attack. Now, I have a degree with a word that technically doesn't exist in English.

Repoman
1- Invent a new combination of letters to represent an existing concept for which perfectly good words already exist
2- Get people to repeat the "new" word
3- Consider yourself "famous" if the word gets into the dictionary

Okay.

I wish everyone would "invent" a new word. Then we would have a butt-load of new stupid words but at least nobody would care because everyone had already done it.
