I've noticed that a lot of really spiritual women have very long hair, down to their waist or longer. I know there are also spiritual woman with short hair, but this is just something I've noticed. Why do you think a lot of them have such long hair?

Perhaps they think its pretty long. bounce.gif no.gif

I'd imagine for one of two reasons:
1) They're far too preoccupied by their esoteric musings to remember to cut their hair
or
2) They believe that long hair contributes to an air of mystique, and thus helps them propagate the 'spiritual' image they wish to create for themselves

Because when these fads started to get popular long hair was the in thing at the time 60's/70's.... Get a hair cut hippy!
the eternal me
i have hair down to my ass, and i like it that way.
if you like short hair? cut it. simple.
there is no difference with the "regular population" in choice of hair length.
perhaps you see it this way because you are comfortable with it.

yer didnt the long hair fashion come from the hippy age as a rebellion against that of the military cut....i think there was some sort of war that everyone was joining up...vietnam? maybe...i dont know my american history is a lil off.as im british

Long hair come from the hippy age? Yeah, because Victorian, Elizabethan, etc. woman all had buzz cuts. rolleyes.gif

I would guess a large number of 'spiritual' or 'new age' women have long hair because they are less concerned with tracking fashion and more concerned with their spiritual or new agey type stuff.

well according to me, people who are totally into spirituality dont care about their appearence that much,be it their living spaces or their hair
as a matter of fact many males who are into spirituality in india termed as "saint" also have long hair!!

I agree with you Adeity. People who are deep driven with meditation or any core belief, tend to overgrow the control of the outside. They tend to focus inside out, and hair in fact is one of the outcomes. It isn't just spiritual people, but also people who are intensely involved with any form of study, be it science or art. Long hair also have many beliefs related to them, some are simply superstitions and rest are scientific. But most often they r behavorial reflections.

Couldn't it be said though that the longer hair actually requires more time and attention ? Washing, brushing, and keeping the tangles out ? Unless of course the wearer of the longer hair has no concern about keeping it washed and clean.

sorry,. i should have been more specific...i was referring to men with long hair...maybe i should have read the thread in more detail...i had no idea we were just talking about women with long hair...i thought it was always the norm for women to have long hair so it didnt register to me.

I'm Pagan, and my hair is half down my back... and I plan on growing it for another year until February 2009... and I'm going to tell you why I, myself, am doing this...
Lasy year, in 2007, my seven year old niece (who has beautiful curly blonde hair that USED to be down to her butt), decided to get it shaved and donate it to "Locks of Love". My hair at the time was only shoulder length, and I was intending on growing it long so I could do it with her THIS year, but since her hair has not yet grown long enough for her to donate it again, and because I wanted to do it at her side, the two of us decided that we'd do it next year together. We're both going to shave our heads in the interest of raising money for cancer research. Normally, I like my hair short (it's much less fuss to take care of, trust me!!!) By the time February 2009 comes along, my hair's gonna be down PAST my rear end, and I'll be DYING to get it off!!
That's my own personal reason for currently having long hair.

Probably the biggest reason that these women tend to let their hair grow, is the fact that most of these people are naturalists. They tend to lean toward organic foods, clothing, and avoid chemically made or man made things in their life. They like to surround themselves with things made and found in nature. And typically, naturalists do not cut their hair. It is natural to let your hair grow, as apposed to cutting and styling it like in general society. No actual "reason" for it really, other than it is what has been done in the past. And, yes, it does tie into the "hippy" movement of the 60's, as they were mostly naturalists.

LOL... Did Jesus have a buzzcut too?

I have pretty long hair. I have really curly and wild hair, and it is actually a lot easier for me day to day to grow long dreadlocks. They take a lot less maintenance than my hair does when it's shorter.

The picture to the left is me, but that was my dreads a year or two ago.
