A mother failed to call an ambulance for her dying daughter because she feared authorities would take her kids away again, a court has been told
Mad Manfred
Is that really a crime?

I mean, let's say you have a relative you live with is choking to death on some pork...and you just sit back and watch them die...is that a crime?
tigger
hmmm depends whether or not you really like this relly, and if they have bequeathed anything to you in their will...
but on pork, that would be a travesty.. should be more like a chicken bone

If its a grown adult I would say no.

If its you're child then yes.

Yeah, if it's your kid, it's your responsibility and it's neglect. You can't really neglect a relative if you're not their legal guardian, lol.

blink.gif Ok, so you let your kid die because your affraid to loose your kid? Is it just me or does this just not make any sense at all? no.gif

Yeah, that really makes a lot of sense to me, too! Absolutely not excuse for letting your child die, none.

In some minds it makes sense. It's possible she did not knw her daughter would die. It's also possible that in some twisted reality in her mind that having her child die and taken away from her was better than having her child taken away through force by social services. Perhaps it was the only thing she was still in charge of.

I understand what you are saying. Most normal people do not think that way,she was concerned enough to go and see her neighbor on how to deal with her.If she didn't believe the injury was serious she would not have done that.It is very sad indeed when you hear cases like this. That is the second case like that in the last 6month's from that suburb i have heard of,and i lived near there for 17year's.Both cases where of a child dying in the care of their mother after being returned to them from foster care. sad.gif

Concerned enough to go to the neighbor, but not concerned enough to listen to her....This child could have been saved...negligence on the mothers part, I believe so.........

I cant understand this really . surely it would be better to loose your child to the authorities than for them to die . I would do anything to save the life of my/any child if that meant giving them up I would .

They'll put you in jail just like Jerry, George, Kramer and Elaine!

That is an interesting question though.

Do you mean in a moral or legal sense?

I don't see how someone's age should change the value of their life...

Well, I think it is about your obligation more than the age, here. It is assumed you love and protect your children, which is why this is rather jolting.

It is hard to say how some people see things, though. No doubt she believed whatever she was thinking...

Depends on where you live.

Some places do have laws that require people to act if another persons life is at risk by either calling the authorities or helping out.

When it comes to children this more or less would likely fall under negligence resulting in death and i could see the woman in this case going up on manslaughter charges as well as child abuse charges especially since the state has stepped in before and removed the kids from the home.

Selfish! She wouldnt come to terms with her sub-concious and she has selfishly cut her nose off to spite her own face.
You just dont sit back knowing something is wrong and let your child die. "Common sence, motherly instinct".

Self obsorbed, worried about what she'll be seen as, and not what she could have prevented.

In most jurisdictions it's called murder.

Likewise, if your relative is having a heart attack and frantically motions for his/her heart tablets on the dresser and you grab the bottle and simply shake it like a baby's rattle in front of them as they die

No, i don't think you are MM. . .I can think of some in laws off the top of the head that I would very likely do that to. I'm sure I would have a fierce morality struggle in the process, but I'd still probably just walk away like nothing was happening. . . I'm so evil. . . but so are they, so. . .

Is it possible that the woman just didn't think the child was hurt that bad? I mean, I don't understand why she would go to the neighbors house if she wasn't concerned. . . I guess she WAS a heroin addict. I imagine it probably effed up her mind a bit. I would just think that it'd be better to call an ambulance and risk having them taken away rather than have my child die. . . but she's probably a bit off in the head. . .

If you are, then so am I... all I can picture is someone dancing around using heart meds as maracas, singing the mexican hat dance tongue.gif

Do you really think it's acceptable that welfare has that much fear factor over people that an innocent accident maybe seen in a different light and misconstruded thus scaring the mother into not seeking medical help. Also i'd like to know exactly what they told the mother before they ceased contact with her to make her belive she would be in trouble for seeking help over an accident.
