A Japanese man has been arrested over allegations that he called directory assistance over 10,000 times – because he was lonely.
It is reported that the man, 37, would apparently whisper 'darling' at the operators as he began the call, before begging female operators not to hang up on him.
His calls may have begun as early as 204, and total more than 10,000, sometimes making more than 200 calls a night.
The mostly-female telephone operators nicknamed him 'the don't-hang-up-man'.
