Once it was the Atom that was the smallest but now Quarks are the smallest matter known - but how much deeper could scientists look into what makes a quark? - is there anything beyond a quark?

I am a supporter of string theory, so I think their is something smaller, strings.

String are 2 dimensional, Take a piece of paper and twist it and attch the ends, that is what a string should look like, a 2 D object in 3 D space.
To exist they need even smaller things called calabi-yau spaces, higher dimensional membranes, each possibly holding a micro universe.

I go by the idea that all matter is a distortion - an organized set of waves - in otherwise-blank space, which would mean there's all sorts of fuzz and bends between the quarks. I think there was a name for it but can't remember

There must be, simply becouse as far as we can see quarks dont have all the neccessary qualaties to be the ultimate common denominator as it were. There must be smaller thingies that give things mass etc. String theory is an interestin one and iirc theres not much evidence against it...though none for it either! I'm on the fence at the mo, pretty sure were due another realisation that will shake the very foundations of science and give us a tiny bit more understanding about us and this here universe type thing.

They are in the final stage in preparation to fire up the Super-collider in Geneva, Switzerland to try to determine if there is something else inside the proton besides the quark. There is the electron, neutron, proton, photon, graviton, boson, lepton, nuon, gluon, glueball, prion, and pion. What else is there?

But, I would like to talk about the quark. It must be an observable thing seeing that they have found so many in the atom. Well, all but one place.

They're trying to find more things that can explain existence, but nobody knows anything about what they have found.

Gravitons are purely hypothetical at the moment. They haven't yet been observed, but people are trying to detect them.

Wiki: List of particles. Really, there's a whole mess of crap. I spent the whole of last year learning the Standard Model in college and just glancing through those lists there were lots of particles that I've never encountered before.
