London - (UPI) - The Lounger, a hovering chair inspired by the land speeders from the "Star Wars" science fiction movies, is set to go on sale in Britain in March.

The furniture hovers above the ground using three strong magnets to give a feeling of weightlessness. The lounger moves when you sit down, but then it finds its own level.

Keith Dixon, 40, said he has already gotten response about his invention from around the world. "Sitting on it is an incredible sensation," he said. "You are defying gravity."

The chair is comprised of a base and a see-through acrylic seat all with magnets repelling each other, forcing the seat to float up to 14 inches above the base.

Affordable and not cumbersome?

I'm still waiting for my jet-backpack that was first introduced sometime in the early 1980's.

I thought they would be all the rage by now.

That's what I'm talkin bout. Get back to us when they invent something important like the blaster or Da Schwartz, or something.

I wonder what the weight limit is on it

Those would have to be some pretty strong magnets...
Nothing like coming home from work one day to find out that the wife has re-arranged the furniture and moved your lovely new magnet chair right next to your vintage 8-Track tape collection... eeeek. grin2.gif

I would estimate somewhere inbetween Chewbacca and Jabba The Hut.

I know it's not exactly Star Wars, but I'm still waiting for Hoverboards to go on the market - surely they'll be next? wink2.gif

It sounds pretty fun, wonder if it would cause motion sickness lol. Oh and it says on the article it can hold up to 266 pounds.

So, Han Solo and Princess Leah could both sit on it, but not go into "hyperspace" on it, it just dosen't sound safe, IMO.

Oh thanks Anvil grin2.gif I must have skimmed over that part...

They should make a big room with a strongly magnetic floor and then get a bunch of these chairs and we'll have teams of two people; one pushing and one sitting and see who's shins survive the longest!

I get the image of ppl flipping off of those things.
