An Iowa couple are £50,000 better off after a complete stranger gave them a blank cheque in a cafe.

He told them: "Write any amount you like - I'm good for it."The couple took him at his word to the tune of $100,000, about £50,600.

The couple met their elderly benefactor in Dr Salami's Cafe in Pella, Iowa. He first asked if they had any kids. They told him they had a two-year-old.

Then he gave his conditions: They were to use the cash to buy a house, never reveal his identity - nor their own full names. And they have to name their next child after him.

The mystery man also left the waitress a $100 tip.

She said: "He is just a nice guy. You never know who is sitting next to you. You never know when you can make a difference to someone else's life."

If I had a tonne of money, I would love to do something like this for people who need it. And since I don't have that kind of money....why couldn't somethinglike this happen to me?!?!? LOL

But here's the question...Hypotheticaly speaking, if this did happen to you or anyone here, what would be the amount you would write in the check....Wonder, if we would turn greedy or be logical about it....I know what I would be laugh.gif

That just shows that the mystery man gave the money to right people, for some people would be greedy, and therefore would not deserve it.

Not really. I am sure there was a bit of a conversation between them first, and so it wasn't just out of the blue. And of course this man wants his name kept quiet. He would be inundated with people trying to get 'help' from him if his name was to become public.

When I initially read it, I kinda did, too, but then I thought about it. Honestly, it makes sense. Keeping their last name private will keep them from being overrun with reporters and random people wanting information about this guy; keeping his name completely out of it will keep him from being bombarded with people asking for money; and as far as naming their next child after him - I think since he's handing out money to random people, he probably doesn't have any heirs to give it to, and also won't have his name passed on in a family line either. So this is his way of having his name live on after he dies. Kinda out there, but not really creepy if you look at it that way.
