I remember back in Spring of 1968-69 I was 7 years old. I was in 2nd grade in a small backwoods town called Green Kansas, KS. One day, myself, and 2 of my friends were taken out of school to go somewhere. I remember we were taken on a school bus and the drive took over an hour. We left late in the morning about 10. We arrived at a very large fenced in location (military base?) went thru a gate and were driven to a one story brick building. Once out of the bus, we were led to a large room full of canvas cots where there were several men in dark suits and a nurse and a woman in a light colored shirt. I remember seeing the nurse preparing a large shot which scared the piss out of me! I remember the lady in the light colored shirt because she looked at the shot too and said for me not to be afraid and she held me while I was given the shot in my left shoulder. It hurt, bad! I actually fainted and woke up later on one of the cots and saw that my friends were waking up as well. We were helped up, given a piece of paper that said what had been done to us, and then taken back to the bus. By the time we got back to the school, it was the end of the school day. I lost my paper somewhere, and tried to tell my parents what had happened, but they paid no attention.
In the days following, I fould I could jump further, climb higher, than any of my friends (except for my shot-mates) and no one could come close to hitting me on dodge ball. I had never known such vibrant health in my body, to this day I can remember how good I felt! When I used to strike out all the time playing base ball, now I was hitting home runs! About 6 to 8 weeks later it wore off.
I have asked my parents about this incident, and to this day they have no idea what was done to me in 1968. I was always a sickly child until then, and after, did not get ill nearly as often as I had in the past, which was weird. What is really strange is that I was a military brat so all my shots were done at the army hospital on the base my Dad worked at in the CID. My Dad told me that the school had no business taking me anywhere to get shots!
Anybody here have a memory like this? I was wondering about it. I'd try to contact my 2 other friends, but I can only remember their first names...loll.
