I have no idea!!! it is something i have been trying to work out for about 6 years now. In the last 10 years I have had to attend the funerals of 15 friends and my wife and all of them under 40 (not alcohol, drugs or sucide) so what ever it is I can only hope it is a good place to be.

Im so scared of dying though. Its my worst phobia, in fact its my only phobia. I just wish it didn't happen. In the end it doesn't matter what you do in life, you end up dead anyway no matter what. Life is pointless.

All matter is energy
We are composed of matter
Therefore, we are energy
When we die
the energy that is us
rejoins the collective energy
I don't know if that includes any type of consciousness
or if there is a collective consciousness and the idea that we are individuals is an illusion.

If you believe the bible, we are told that when we die our body returns to the earth frow where it was taken.
The energy that created the body goes on to another stage. I don't think that our bodies can go any farther away from the sun than now, or for that matter, any closer. But what energy we have is just a step more visible than the sun. We know what the sun is and we know what our thoughts are; the two are stages of creation.
Everything is created in this dispensation. The impulse that created all individual things will again reform itself and go to another stage of creation. Whether the creatures formed will have their individual selves to use is a nice thought, but how in the world can anybody say that?

the energies that form you return to the earth/universe and form other things
This is what I think. I do not believe it includes a consciousness though.

Death
BY
Khalil Gibran
Then Almitra spoke, saying, "We would ask now of Death."
And he said:
You would know the secret of death.
But how shall you find it unless you seek it in the heart of life?
The owl whose night-bound eyes are blind unto the day cannot unveil the mystery of light.
If you would indeed behold the spirit of death, open your heart wide unto the body of life.
For life and death are one, even as the river and the sea are one.
In the depth of your hopes and desires lies your silent knowledge of the beyond;
And like seeds dreaming beneath the snow your heart dreams of spring.
Trust the dreams, for in them is hidden the gate to eternity.
Your fear of death is but the trembling of the shepherd when he stands before the king whose hand is to be laid upon him in honour.
Is the shepherd not joyful beneath his trembling, that he shall wear the mark of the king?
Yet is he not more mindful of his trembling?
For what is it to die but to stand naked in the wind and to melt into the sun?
And what is to cease breathing, but to free the breath from its restless tides, that it may rise and expand and seek God unencumbered?
Only when you drink from the river of silence shall you indeed sing.
And when you have reached the mountain top, then you shall begin to climb.
And when the earth shall claim your limbs, then shall you truly dance.

Yea I tend to believe I will create mine own afterlife but I might be willing to yield to place beyond comperhension.
"Do not fear death. Death is always at our side, if we show fear it jumps on us faster than light but if we do not show fear it cast its eye upon us gently and guides us into infinity."
