I have a big group of athiest friends, and a very religious family. What i dont understand is that, the religious people are always saying things about how satan is trying to get at them and how you will bring demons into your life by doing things they consider "demonic" or satanic". Theyre life, in my opinion is crap, theyre kids cant listen to the type of music they enjoy. They cant play a lot of videos games. They cant watch most movies, and the reason for all of this is that its "satanic" and it will ruin your life. Well my athiest friends, who obviously do not belive in satan or god, have no problems with satan or demons they live thier life just fine and theyre not doing too bad. I would say that more athiest people i know are doing better off than the religious ones. The athiests are not constantly under the attack of demons and satan, theyre very practical people and are actually nice and fun to be around. So why dont the athiests have problems fighting the devil? You can say that satan only attacks people who belive in god, BUT my own parents believe in god and are actually skeptical of satan existing. They think he is just a character to portray evil or something. They also are not constantly being attacked by satan. So what the hell? I dont know what i am, i havent found out what i believe yet, But noticing this has really turned me off from christianity. What do you think about this? I know you religious people are gona come up with some way to have this be said somewhere in the bible. I can fight and fight and fight with a religious person, and it always comes down to them winning because they dont need proof to be right, just faith.
Belle.

Most people who attempt to view life objectively end up with this conclusion, Christians obviously don't have the exclusive rights to living a happy, wholesome existence. People who believe in Satan blame bad things in their life on him hence they don't fix the real root of whatever problem they have.

Hmmm I definitely don't agree with the part in bold! When people resort to faith they have lost the argument IMO. It is there get out of jail free card that they whip out whenever they are losing.
Darkwind
As a person who is told on a regular basis that all the Gods he believes in are demons and Satan I can say I am doing fine on the dark side.
Beckys_Mom
The only way characters like satan or demons can efect a person, is when they convince themselves they exist

I believe that, if your mind rejects the idea of him existing, then you cannot believe you are effected

Satan to me is not real...never existed, was made up by religious people to scare you into following God

again I said to me he isnt real...im entitled to that view

Belgis., I have always respected your opinion and while your beliefs are not my own I do respect them as a courtesy to you. Now if that was not true I would really get defensive and tell ya a thing or two! tongue.gif
My FAITH is stronger than your reality you see it takes GREAT faith to believe in something you can't see. Exactly how much faith is needed to belive in something you can see? NOT MUCH! So my faith is NEVER a """Get out of jail free card """" Quite the opposite, I believe you work on your faith everyday and that takes dilgence and character to continue to have such strong faith in what can't be seen and to gain more each day I learn more.
Your statement with all due respect is an ending to a sentence at best, Anyone that has faith in ANYTHING at all will tell you the easy way out would be NOT to have faith at all.
I was really suprised that you would say such a thing, I have always found you to be intelligent and knowledgble. Faith is very important in some peoples lives and not just faith in God. What about all the moms who sit at the hospitial with their very sick children day in day out that HAVE FAITH that their child will get well and come home. What about the parents spouses and kids who have someone fighting in Iraq, They have FAITH their loved ones will come home.
Don't be so quick to judge something you don't know anything about or understand. I am sure that my faith will carry me the rest of my life and with that faith comes work so , NO its no get out of jail free card, Belgis. no.gif
Always a pleasure

I see that Satans best lie is still working. but your right you have the right to believe what ever you want to.

Sandee! I meant it in the sense that it stops the debate - an atheist can't provide a better, more well thought out 'faith'. You can be having a humdinger debate - evidence vs evidence then KABOOM - when somebody mentions faith you can't argue against it.

I don't know if my explanation still makes it insulting?!? hope it doesn't
Odd Christian
The problem is that many "christians" focus on the wrong things, when they go through hard times of their own making, they claim the devil is attacking them, they focus more on the devil then they do on God. They act super spiritual, but are not truely spiritual.
They focus more on "your going to burn in hell for doing drugs" than they do "Drugs destroy your life, and God loves you and wants to set you free of them, so you can have a better life here and now"
If we(christians) focused on the things we are supposed to be doing, helping our fellow man, and bringing focus to God, instead of the devil, perhaps the world would be a better place.

a quote from the bible (I don't remember where and I don't feel well and don't have the energy to look it up)
"having a form of Godliness, but denying the power thereof" sums it up well. as well as this( from an old christian song)

"don't be so heavenly minded that you'll be no earthly good"

"the single biggest cause of atheism in the world today is christians, who acknowledge Jesus with their lips, but deny Him by their lifestyles. This is what an unbelieving world finds unbeleivable."- Carmen (a christian singer/preacher)

I'm not going to tell you what to think but i'll tell you what i think. I've been interested in Religion, the occult, ufo's and evrything that you might term "paranormal" in one way or another from my teenage years on. I've gone through different phases and concentrated on different aspects to the point of obsession. Here's what i've found in my 33 yrs wandering this earth. If i follow religion, concentrate on it's teachings and praying and want to believe in Gods existence then i can find enough coincidences and feelings related to peace of mind to convince myself of his existence (when i chose to go down that route). If i'm looking for ghosts or evidence of their presence i can fit enough coincidences together to try and convince myself they exist. If ufo's are my subject of interest i can study the skies and all related literature to a obsessive point and sure enough i'll identify enough unidentified objects to convince myself there's something going on. Yet when i'm looking for none of these things, when i'm just accepting my existence for what it is then no evidence for the existence of any of these things is forthcoming. I find no coincidences that relate to them and no evidence which draws me towards them.

Make of that what you will, i know what that leads me to believe about the power of the human mind and wishful thinking.

The only thing i'd add is during your life your bombarded with the beliefs and ideas of most people you come into contact with. Trust your own instinct (whilst applying rational thought) wink2.gif

Define your words! Atheist, theist, gnostic, agnostic.

An atheist is one who does not believe in a central God.
A theist is one who does not believe that there is no central God.
A gnostic believes in a supreme being.
An agnostic believes that everything is an unknown.

A religious family believes in what?

What I read from you is that a religious family believes in satan, devil, and demons, and that certain uses of things are 'satanic' or 'demonic.'
Is that atheist religion?
Is Satanic Christianity the belief in Satan and Christ or that Satan is Christ?
Is Satanic Theism the belief that Satan is the central God?
Is Satanic Atheism the belief that all things are Satan?
Who's on first?

Correction.
An athiest does not believe in ANY god.
I"m one, i should know.

Whats that C**P about a "central god"?
None of the many "gods" of the many religions actually exist.

" Does satan only hurt you if your afraid?"
To the OP, Satan does not exist.
