Yet there was no mention of his being tried or convicted of murder. He did not find religion from a jail cell, this is not the same case.
This was my initial point. The story is much too neatly packaged and avoids such crucial details as to what happened afterwards. The OP does not mention whether or not the man was convicted, and that is what makes the story incredulous.

He still had his freedom, whether or not he changed his ways. In that regard, his change is voluntary and carries no earthly benefit. it is not being used as a ploy.
Assuming that the story is true, I'm astonished to read that there are people who believe that if someone (especially a violent criminal as described in the story) discovers faith then that person should automatically be exonerated of any crimes they committed. You mentioned finding religion in a jail cell. Have you any idea how many convicts have found religion in prisons around the world? Should their sentences be dropped simply because they now want to be forgiven for their sins?
And what of the people this man caused harm to? Do you really expect them to just forget the whole matter because he's chosen to be a better man now?

If you demand a punishment, he did get the death penalty, we all get death in the end.
What does the fact that we're all going to die someday have to do with this? Do you truly believe that your country's laws mean nothing and that you or anyone can break them without repercussions?

Would you volunteer to have your heart stopped for "a few minutes", to verify that dying is as unimportant an experience as you say?
I have stated several times on this forum what I experience and I won't bother to repeat myself. Suffice it to say that in all the hallucinations I've experienced through my oft times violent seizures I have not once believed them to be visions of other-worldly origin. The brain is a complex organ that is highly sensitive to any and all chemical imbalances.
I've had my own visions of hell, but in a very earthly context.
