Couldn't it have been a water centipede?

just because the oldest land fossil is a centipede doesnt mean they are the oldest land creatures. its certainly a possibility, but very hard to prove.

I have to agree.

I mean, they could go out right now and find fossil remains of a land creature even older than this one. Also, there could have been some sort of really old land animal whose bones disinigrated or something? Is that possible? I really don't know. wacko.gif

But the point is it can't be proven. It might be the oldest land creature that we know of, but that's about it.

I'm not exactly sure if that's the way that man_in_mudboots was thinking of when he posted, but it still goes along with the 'hard to prove' thing. Maybe more like impossible to prove.

Cya!

This is what I don't get about scientists. They themselves admit that it is rare that an animal would be preserved as a fossil, and yet they made all sorts statement like it is the gospel truth.

The centipede is a prime example, just because they didn't find any terrestrial animal fossils before a certain time span doesn't mean there weren't any!

I'm just wondering... is there a picture at the top? Because I'm terrified of centipedes.

I hate to say it but they (The scientist) are wrong. According to my assistant, I'm the oldest land creature grin2.gif

definantly the oldest land creature willl not have bones. it almost has to be a invertebrate. other wise, yeah thats what i meant.
