user posted image rChina has added ghosts, monsters and other things that go bump in the night to its list of banned video and audio content in an intensified crackdown ahead of the Beijing Olympics. Producers have around three weeks to look through their tapes for "horror" and report it to authorities, the General Administration of Press and Publications said. Offending content included "wronged spirits and violent ghosts, monsters, demons, and other inhuman portrayals, strange and supernatural storytelling for the sole purpose of seeking terror and horror", the administration said. The new guidelines aim to "control and cleanse the negative effect these items have on society, and to prevent horror, violent, cruel publications from entering the market through official channels and to protect adolescents' psychological health". The regulations suggest China, where graphic, pirated sex and horror movies are available on most street corners, is keen to step up its control of the cultural arena ahead of the Beijing Olympics in August, which are widely seen as a coming-out party for the rising political and economic power.

They come just weeks after Beijing clamped down on "vulgar" video and audio content, slapped restrictions on internet sites and handed down a two-year filmmaking ban to the team behind the steamy Lost in Beijing.

would be interesting to watch this forced change to the younger kids. Would a generation of no violent/monter or negative type movie cool down the temper of humanity? How far will the govenmt go to crack down on it, and will bootlegging go Capone Chicago stlye?

must watch

So does that mean UM will be on China's ban list?

Well lets hope they go the distance and ban so called potency delicacies such as shark fin/tiger penis soups.

Good God! Bleah! WTF?!? ph34r.gif

For one of the oldest living human civilization, they're odd in many ways. Move over Godzilla, you're banned by your asian cousins.

It would seem unlikely, Bear. As you pointed out the Chinese dragon is an integral part of their traditions, usually a benevolent being and protector, rather than a monster.

If they could "go the distance" the poor animals would be safe. ohmy.gif Seriously though, I agree completely. In this day and age they should listen to scientific facts.

What I want to know is this: are these changes meant to be permanent or are they just until the Olympics are over?
I'm hoping its just temporary, I do love a good asian horror movie. yes.gif

I hope none of the athletes love horror films, this is completely stupid in my opinion. How can they get rid of all the horror related things in China? I cant imagine how the ghosts over there feel. Tiggs, i found that quite funny no offence, because i love this site, probably my favourite site on the net, with the amount of information we have on these forums, it will most likely be their number 1 banned website.

Poor kids will be wishing they had nightmares. tongue.gif
