Despite what we all think on the war & what’s going on in the Middle East we all do support the troops. It seems that some people have had enough of the WBC & it’s about time.

Good on them. Surround the protesters and cover them with American flags. I like it. A totally non-violent solution to the problem that effectively removes the hateful signs and jeering. Hopefully they will continue to do this at other places where WBC protest. And hopefully they remain as non-violent as that counter-protest.

How do you protest a man's funeral who died fighting for his country, your country. That is total Ignorance.

I think this is what is America is about. Coming together and protecting and being there for others. And the fact that it was pretty much a peaceful counter-demastration, I am proud of those who were though to shelter the grieving family of the soldier. It also was good to see how there were more of the Patriot Guard to the members of the WestBoro Church. You better believe it was a failure, Mr. Phelps!!!

Good for them, I dont think I'd have the self control to keep myself from escalating the situation.

I totally agree with you there they did it with no violence & the people at WBC felt it's in their best intrest to leave & if more people did do this perphaps this would stop.

I used to hate Fred Phelps, but now... I pity him.
I feel that there are one of two plausible explanations for Phelp's behavior. Number 1 being that I read an interview with some of his kids who left the church and they said that Phelps thrives on hate and that he'd do anything to get people to hate him.
Number two is that Phelps is actually a self hating homosexual.

Actually, I'm just the opposite, I used to pity him, now I think he's a loathful snake.

His issue isn't blind homosexual hating, his issue isn't even religion... although that's what he's doing all of this in the name of. What he REALLY is, is a dis-barred civil rights attorney (no kidding), his REAL motivation is to give the civil rights legal community and constitutional law a black eye.

What I really find a joke, is how he got dis-barred. I cannot even believe the rest of the courtroom allowed him to go on asking those horrible unneeded questions to that poor innocent witness! He should have been stopped right from the first question. And most of his family are lawyers. Does he have respect for the profession, or does he have a plan?

Because illegals aren't NEARLY as sensitive a topic as homosexuality... almost nothing is these days, except perhaps abortion, but there are already a lot of rational voices on abortion and his insanity wouldn't stick out enough.

He's doing what will get him the MOST attention, and drive the legal community nuts, give the fact that his rants are perfectly constitutional. I've yet to find a single person say they agree with this kook... and I think that's EXACTLY his point.. he doesn't want anyone to agree with him.

I'm amazed he hasn't been shot...or something...it has crossed my mind that he might have a terminal
illness....and would like to be murdered and have a well publicised death.

I find it interesting, that he waits til someone is dead to critisize them. Here we have poor Heath Ledger, who has died and cannot defend himself, and they rant about him, but live and well Jake Gallenhal is not being touched at all. I find that not only cowardly, but underhanded.
And the fact, that yes Fred Phelps does seem like he's sick, but he's dragging most of his family into this.

I don't think Phelps is crazy... I do think he's probably vendictive, mean, and souless though.

As Ripley has said in the past, and I think she has a good point... Phelps protesting is having the reverse effect and making people who otherwise would not care, be sympathetic to the cause and people Phelps is protesting against. Like she said in another thread, she's half compelled to send him a thank you card and tell him to keep up the good work!

Phelps is too smart to really believe in what he's doing... there's another motivation behind it... the one I came up with seems to be the only one that makes sense at this point.



This is a really good example of what I'm talking about... You're right, Phelps doesn't go after Gyllenhal for one reason... it's because he IS alive, but it's not cowardly... it's smart on Phelps part. If Phelps went after someone alive, he'd be liable for slander, harassment, and other things. He was a civil rights attorney once upon a time, he knows the law.

I keep forgetting that sometimes. I also should have realized that, not going after the living individuals. I forgot that, or didn't realize, how once you are dead, it's different. Although, cannot the family sue? I apoligize if I do not know this.

If this is only to give him media attention, for what end? I find it disgusting and disrespectful of him and his family(I just learned most of them are lawyers) for doing this. What would happen, if no one paid attention?
