Seriously there is no discussion about best rpg without Diablo, Baldurs Gate, Planescape: Torment, Neverwinter Nights, Icewindale, etc. All of them with great stories and pretty much on par or define the gameplay when it comes to D&D crpg's. And we also have Deux Ex and System Shock that brought innovation to the genre. and a recently good one is The Witcher. But these are PC games
I have not played Mass Effect but I will play it when it comes out on the PC it will be the same story, but the gameplay and interface will Optimized for the PC
QUOTE
Mass Effect for the PC incorporates the following features:
* Optimized controls designed specifically for the PC.
* High resolution visuals – Mass Effect for the PC features highly detailed textures, characters and environments.
* Fully customizable controls – PC gamers can re-map the control scheme any way they like.
* Run & Gun Control – Players can assign biotic powers or skills to ‘hot keys’ allowing them to play Mass Effect with a heavier focus on action.
* New decryption mini-game.
* New inventory screen GUI and functionality – The enhanced inventory system makes it easier for players to equip and modify their weapons and armor.
http://biz.yahoo.com/bw/080212/20080212005536.html?.v=1As for Final Fantasy 7 I don't even think its the best one out of the series hell its not even the best game Square released. When it comes to Square Enix rpg games Chrono Trigger, Chrono Cross, Vagrant Story, Valkyrie Profile, and Final Fantasy Tactics are better then FF7 in music, story, and gameplay in my opinion. But I really love the Zelda series especially The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask.

Indeed Atheist' ... no computers involved.. you actually play with real people.

Or, if computer RPG games are your 'thing', then I would cite the grandaddy of them all... Nethack. (still available as a free download). For those of you who havn't played this 1980's game... the game map is made up of exclamation marks, underscores and full stops. The monsters (including yourself) are letters of the alphabet. I spent DAYS playing that game. Must dig it out again

I'd have to go with both Dark Sun games... they were the first I played on the PC, and I'll never forget how many side quests you could do.
Also, World of Warcraft is cool, I play that on Akama server Horde side. But what I really want to try out is Age of Conan.

Oh hell yea I loved that game. Probably my favorite game overall for the Super Nintendo. I think I beat it like 4 or 5
times. My favorite character had to be Geno, and I still got the game with the box in mint condition. I thought it was bull crap that Mario didn't speak even once during that game though.

Order a pizza pull out a 24 and set up the character sheets... when I find people who still play i occasionally try to play etc. It's all about the AD&D third edition...
What makes table top RPG's so much fun is the customizable aspect especially for the DM. You essentially got to play a game you design to suit your needs... That's right kids there are games that require you to have an imagination. If you want a ninja class you can make a ninja class (did it lol)
D&D is still widely played all over the world, it's a great way to socialize and have fun.

Crono Trigger
thats all i can think of, cause its really late and i dont want to think right now.
And Blue Dragon, you say it's rare for you to meet someone who didn't like FF7? I've met so many people like that, it's common for me, and i seriously don't know why people overrate it so damn much(not saying you were). i did beat it, and in the end, all i said was "meh, it was ok." not like most people who go "holy crap, thats the best game ever!!!" or something overrated like that. its not the best, by far its not. but it is a good game.

Star Wars KOTOR I&II, definetly two of the best RPG ever made.
Currently I am totally addicted to DragonQuest VII. It is an older game(2004) but it is really fun. It is done in the old school fighting style of taking turns, you level up, eventually learn your spells, etc, etc - anyone played it? I am already at over 60 hours and not even half-way through. It is a really big game.
I am driving my poor fiance nuts because I have hogged the tv for the last two weeks and haven't really payed any attention to him. and yes, I am a female. A female who loves to game - I have found that to be an anomaly.

D&D is still widely played all over the world, it's a great way to socialize and have fun.
When I hear the term "RPG",the first thing that comes to mind is the old-fashioned role-playing games played in person with character sheets, books, and people.
I hadn't been a DM since the early 80's,and some friends recently decided that they'd like to game again on a regular basis.I got talked into being a DM again, and although it's a lot of work being one...it's still a lot of fun. We've been playing once a week for the last 4 weeks, and we're not planning to stop anytime soon.
I haven't gotten to read much on the 3rd Edition D&D stuff, and right now I think I'll pass on it since they're getting ready to release a 4th Edition...so right now we're playing with a mix of 1st & 2nd Edition with some old Homebrew stuff. And,since several of us are fans of the Forgotten Realms novels,we're playing in the Realms.
But yeah, gaming night is pizza night...and booze is an added party favor.I think games are much more fun if it's in person with a group of friends.
