Full Version: My brother is in a demonic band

My brother plays in a band that has the name of the devil in it. Diablo Royale. That means Royal Devil.

My mother is worried that he may call down the wrath of God and/or Satan by using the devil's name and playing music in his name.

My mother is nuts.

Has anyone heard of people in bands with demonic names being plagued by demons?

If they were plagued, then there would be no bands named after demons.

UNLESS demons enjoy being glorified, so they help out bands with demonic names. Maybe that's why there are so many bands that are sucessfull that sing about the devil.
Never_Hit_Nirvana
The only demons they ever get plagued by are small minded Christian loonies. I would be worrying more about your mother than your brother.
Thisisnotmyname
It is complete and utter madness to think that a band "using the devil's name and playing music in his name" will be plagued by demons. You need only look at the success of death/black metal bands such as Mayhem, Emperor, Cannibal Corpse, etc etc etc etc. There are plenty of others, death metal or otherwise. They are all doing pretty well for themselves; there's quite a decent market for playing that music. I should know - I was into that scene for quite awhile, and played in a band in that style for a little while. And look at me - I'm certainly not dead or "plagued with demons."
Neognosis
maybe their success is because demons are helping them.
Sweetpumper
I've heard of satanic band members cannibalizing each other. No joke.

It sounds to me like your brother has issues accepting his faith. What exactly those issues are, no one knows. I certainly don't understand what's so hard to accept about an all powerful being who let's bad things happen, a "holy trinity" that is actually only one person, written accounts about events that happened thousands of years ago when there was really no way of recording such events, miracles, virgins having kids, people being brought back from the dead, a skinny little dude w/ a sling shot defeating a giant, 1 fish turning into 40 (loaves of bread?....whatever it was), and of course the whole "I'm god's kid....call me JC for short". I mean...it all seems so upfront and easily acceptable as truth...what's the problem here?

Perhaps, and I wouldn't know for certain of course...but perhaps your brother named the band Diablo Royale because....waaaaaiiiittttt for iiiiiiitttttt.....HOLY CRAP (no pun intended) THAT ACTUALLY SOUNDS LIKE A REALLY COOL NAME FOR A ROCK AND ROLL BAND!!!!!

OR - he's possessed. Sorry Neognosis, but it looks you better call a priest (I hear there are a few in the South who can "Shout at the Devil" and get him out of your brother's soul.
Neognosis

I think my brother is in that band because he is evil.

Next time I see him, I'm going to bless his water and see if he gets burned when he tried to drink it.

You're probably thinking of the only instance I have ever heard of, and it's worse than just "cannibalism."

The original vocalist [can't call him a "singer"] of Mayhem killed himself with a shotgun blast to the face. He supposedly left a note that said "please excuse all the blood." A fellow member of the band [who lived in the same house as him] discovered the scene shortly thereafter and one of the things he purportedly did was to take some of the fragments of the singer's grey matter and mix it into a stew. Yep, those guys were messed up.

As I said, however, this is the ONLY such instance I've ever heard of in the history of heavy music. Most bands in that genre would never take it quite that far, but there were a few that took a liking to occasional stabbings and church burnings during that same time period (early 90s or so).

In most cases, crazy stuff that death/black metal bands do are just a ridiculous publicity stunt. As you can tell, it works.

Haha we may never know. Certainly not from that particular case, as the guy who ate Dead's brains (yes, the singer's stage name was "Dead" rolleyes.gif ) was murdered within a couple years. Go figure.......

I don't think it's a ridiculous publicity stunt as much as it's a way of making the statement of being antireligious. No one gets upset when people praise god, but name a band Diablo Royale and OH MY GOD (pun intended) they must hate life, love, kittens, puppy dogs, Bob Hope, apple pie, George Bush, and everything else that's good in this world!!

I'm in a very similar band, and I can assure you, the name is named in such a matter because: A. it sounds cool. People don't want to hear "Mother Therese’s Rockin' Acoustic Hour"...they want to hear music that causes your neck to hurt at the end of the night, makes you pump your fist in the air and allows you release some of the tension that gets built up from all the Jesus freaks out there who are doing more damage to the MESSAGE of Christianity than anything, and B. it makes a statement about what R&R is. R&R is about music, yes, but more so it's about going against the grain, challenging athority, and making your own desicions. People who get upset about a demonic band name are the kinds of people that I wouldn't want at my shows anyway.

Besides...I'm not a Satanist....I'm the new leader of the 6th Reich!!!! (If you don't know what happened to the 4th and 5th Reichs, I suggest you get yourself a German history book!)

Sorry, it didn't involve cannibalism but it sure shows you what human garbage these people become. This is what I was thinking of:

But what do the Satanists have to say? On the one hand, there are those who openly profess and advocate the dark and ritualistic nature of Satanism. In 1993 Gavin Baddeley interviewed two members of a Norwegian black metal rock group, later included in an article in The X Factor. Baddeley asked the one member, called Count Grishnackh, what was happening in Norway. He replied that "over a period of six months there have been eight churches ruined by fire. And, of course, the normal grave desecrations. Also, some people have disappeared." When asked what might have happened to these people, Grishnackh said, "Something along the lines of a Satanic murder."

When Baddeley asked the other one, who called himself Euronymous, what he thought about these occurrences, he replied: "I support it 100 per cent. I think all kinds of actions which are necessary for spreading sorrow are great. Many people say, for example, that desecrating churchyards is just stupid because you don't harm the Christians. But I think it's great because it can depress so many people ... It spreads sorrow and I think that's very important." Grishnackh went on to stab Euronymous 25 times in the head and torso later that year, killing him.

You got a link to that information.

A lot of people said Led Zeppelin had a lot of bad stuff happen to them cause they were following the work of Anton S. LaVey. I think it was bad luck and behaving really stupid. Despite all that they were really great musicians and song writers. People ofter create their own problems and it has nothing to do with demons. I hope your brother is successful with his band.

Well, I checked them out, and they don't seem to be Satanic at all:

Its called Prion disease.

What is prion disease?
Prion diseases belong to group of progressive conditions that affect the nervous system in humans and animals. In people, prion diseases impair brain function, causing memory changes, personality changes, a decline in intellectual function (dementia), and problems with movement that worsen over time. The signs and symptoms of these conditions typically begin in adulthood, and these disorders lead to death within a few months to several years.

What genes are related to prion disease?
Mutations in the PRNP gene cause prion disease.

Only a small percentage of prion disease cases run in families. Most cases are sporadic, which means they occur in people without any known risk factors or gene mutations. Rarely, prion diseases can be transmitted by accidental exposure to prion-contaminated tissues during a medical procedure. This type of prion disease is called iatrogenic.

One type of prion disease in humans, variant Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (vCJD), is acquired by eating beef products obtained from cattle with prion disease. In cows, this form of the disease is known as bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE) or, more commonly, "mad cow" disease. Another example of an acquired human prion disease is kuru, which was identified in the South Fore tribe in Papua New Guinea. The disorder was transmitted when tribe members ate the tissue of affected people during cannibalistic funeral rituals.

Ya, your brother is probably a demon infested cannibal by this stage, perhaps suffering prion disease - although I wouldn't like to jump the gun here.
cutycub
maybe you should ask him about it, and tell him not to do anything stupid...?
Cradle of Fish
What's wrong with the name? The members of Black Sabbath never did anything too crazy (if you ignore Ozzy for a bit). The singer from Slayer is christian, despite releasing an album called God Hates Us All.

Then on the flip side, Marvin Gaye, who sang some very pious songs, was shot by his father, who was a clergyman.
Heebrow
power to him, some of the best metal is produced by demonic influence. Shred on gentlemen I say.

no a band name means nothing more than anything else does. I played in my share of metal bands through the times and still do and many had "evil" names, doesn't mean they were bad (well maybe musically but not otherwise heh). If I write "satan" now doesn't mean I'll get cursed.

It's what you do in life that matters not what you call your band.

Satan. Beelzebub. Lucifer. Leviathan. Abaddon.

If that's the case, I'm going to make a new band called "El LuV Diablo". Watch out for me on the radio and TV soon. I have a feeling you're effing with us, but on the other hand, you just might be that weird no offense. Your beliefs are way too strong for me to take you seriously. You really believe you can test if your brother is evil or not by giving him holy water? Come on, now.

I played a game with the name of the devil in it once. "Diablo", and "Diablo II". I guess I should be getting ready to sacrifice children to the devil now also. A name means nothing. Action, on the other hand, is something else entirely. I get the impression that this band chose the name more for the sound than any reflection of their personal beliefs, so unless your brother is sacrificing chickens to the devil during his off-hours, I think you're better off just wishing him the best of luck.
