BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -- Police said neighbors are responsible for the safe return of a 4-year-old girl after being snatched off her bicycle Sunday.

The kidnapping occurred Sunday afternoon on Tupper Court in east Bakersfield.

Police said 43-year-old Robert Perez Rodriguez allegedly tried to lure an 11-year-old girl into his car. When she ran to her mother, police said he grabbed the 4-year-old and took off.

The girl's father and a neighbor chased Rodriguez's car to Stiern Park, where police said the father rescued his daughter.

The car chase continued down Monitor Street where police said Rodriguez tried to ram the victim’s father’s car.

Rodriguez eventually got out of his vehicle and ran.

Police found him on Hughes Lane hiding beneath a pickup truck.

“To have this child returned safely, this quickly, is absolutely outstanding,” said Sgt. Greg Terry of the Bakersfield Police Department.

I agree, i,m so glad that father was able to chase this creep! And your right about the perv being lucky it was the police, and not dad that caught up with him! I know if someone would have tried to nab our daughter, and my hubby caught the jerk there wouldn,t have been very many pieces of the guy left for the cops to arrest!

I would have snapped the guys neck if it had been my kid and I got a hold of him. If he was brazen enough to do this in front of people, then he has done it before. I hope he gets killed in his holding cell.

Men like this need to be killed. I say the death pentalty for even attempting this kind of thing. One strike and your out for men like that.

Yes, they just seem to keep doing it, they don't stop so to protect all children, these people should NEVER be given another chance.

Actually there is more truth to that than u know! Most people in "holding cells" are people just like u and me who did something stupid to get locked up(parents,teachers everybody). When a child molester or kidnapper or rapists enter these jails they are pounced upon by the other people in the holding cell. Even hardened criminals know better than to harm kids! So people like this guy dont survive long in jail. I hope that helps your feelings bout this, it is disturbing, but there is JUSTICE in this world. Sometimes we have to create our own justice in these situations. Kudos to the father for rescuing his baby
