NOBLESVILLE, Ind. -- A couple is accused of driving with two of five children in the trunk of their car because they said there wasn't room for them in the back seat.

Jerrod Griffin Sr., 32, and Khonda Griffin, 29, were each charged with neglect of a dependent, a Class D felony.

Police said that a neighbor called them at about 4:20 p.m. Friday to report that the Griffins put two children in the trunk of a Pontiac Grand Am and drove away.

When police arrived at a mobile home park where the Griffins live, the couple was not home, officers said.

The parents were found home on Saturday afternoon, along with their five children, between the ages of 8 months and 9 years.

According to police, the Griffins said that three of their children were asleep in the back seat of the car and that their 9- and 4-year-old children were put in the trunk because there was no room for them.

UUUMMM....well, they live in a trailer, have five kids and a car that seats 5 people. Smart, really smart.

Yeah, really. If you can't afford to buy a new car to fit all your kids, get some bloody birth control! Jeese!

Your right about that, unless I stands for idiot then they have plenty of it! wacko.gif And the thought of how many times they did this before is a scary thought indeed! These two should have started on birth controle before the first child was concieved! yes.gif

This really annoys me . why on earth couldn't they walk . I have a five seater and 3 kids and if we have my little girls friends over we have to walk . simple as that or we stay home . angry.gif

But, you have a lot of common sense, obviously these two don't.

One of the parents could have stayed home with a few or all of the kids. While the other parent went to do whatever it was they had to do. hmm.gif
Hell I would sooner put my fiance in the trunk than my kids!! grin2.gif

haha i kinda find that funny. When i was a kid like 9 or 10 my mom and grannie were going somewhere and i wasnt allowed to go and i hid in the trunk and she had a corolla with the fold down back seats so i left them unlatched so i could bust out when i felt her get on the free way MWHAHAHA!

"The couple told police the incident was a one-time occurrence and that they know what happened was wrong, 6News' Tanya Spencer reported.

The children were taken into protective custody. The couple posted $10,000 bond each on Saturday night.

Neighbor Leslie Gaunce told 6News that the Griffins are good parents who just made a mistake.

"She's really upset. She cries and everything," Gaunce said. "Their vans are broke down."

The Griffins could each face up to three years in prison if found guilty on neglect charges."

I just wonder if the children feel like they are being punished too. Considering the five of them are aged.. " between the ages of 8 months and 9 years "... That must be hard on them to be taken away from their family hey.. or to maybe lose their parents to jail.

You also have to remember that some people will say anything to not get in trouble. I relaly hope it was the one time. All it took was them to be rearended, and have two less children.

Yes I know.. but you must remember that your law systems work on being innocent until proven guilty... So you must give them the benefit of the doubt over whether or not it had been done before. original.gif

i'd just like to say that this is not the seventies, and drive in's are long gone
InHuman
I've done that before, I'm assuming the kids in the trunk were toddlers or 8months old..

From my experience its not as bad as it sounds, of course you dont lock the trunk ...

I'm not sure of the relevance of this is.. because I dont think drive in's where mentioned at all.

And imo it is as bad as it sounds. So I'm not sure of what the last poster was trying to say exactly. Trying to be funny I guess. ? But it makes me ask... So have you Inhuman put children in the boot of your car have you? Is that what you were trying to say you've done?
She-ra
Hey- I think we should just put the parents in the trunk and drive around, say what 30 minutes? I think that's fair.
InHuman
Nah, I was the one IN the trunk, think we were at the beach or something and I fell in some pretty nasty stuff (it happens), cuz didin't want to get his car seats dirty so I rode in the trunk..

That was a fun summer...

Anyways I'm assuming they didn't close the dam trunk (said that in my earlier post somehwere.)

I guess if your into that eye for an eye thing.. Then you might think thats wise and fair. I think the law thinks differently though hey and for good reason. original.gif Two wrongs dont make a right etc.

lol.. Sounds it if it was a friends car and you made that choice yourself. If it was your folks car then that would be a different matter. And towels are good for placing on car seats so they dont get too dirty hey(just a tip for ya in future if you need it). original.gif Saves you riding in a boot.

Yes, I know 2 wrongs don't make a right... BUT... who the hell puts kids in a trunk and drives around? That's just pure and simple child abuse. It discusts me to no end that's all.

Yeah I know.. I dont like it either and I find it hard to imagine people doing it. But considering their whole situation I just think its sad for all involved. Thats all. I think if they were.. good parents.. like what the neighbor said, and they did just do this silly thing once, then I think its sad that the children have to maybe miss their parents and be given to strangers to be looked after. I think thats pretty harsh. The family sounds like it needs help.. like someone to fix their van.. instead of seperating their family and making them try to find bail.

Also... you should read the article alittle more maybe.. " According to police, the Griffins said that three of their children were asleep in the back seat of the car and that their 9- and 4-year-old children were put in the trunk because there was no room for them. "

Not that it makes much difference but anyway.

The link to the full article says they each posted $10,000 bond and has a neighbor claiming they are good parents, but their vans were broken down and that is why they resorted to placing the kids in the trunk.

Now if they have $20,000 between the two of them to get out of jail wouldn't you think they could have afforded to get their vans fixed in order to travel with all of their children safely?

It depends on where they got the money. They couldve been leant it because of their circumstance(and not leant it before) or it could be surety bail from their home or whatever.
