Nokia has unveiled what could be the phone of the future – and it bends like an elastic band and cleans itself.
The Morph concept, developed by Nokia Research Center (NRC) and the University of Cambridge, was launched this week and will be on display at The Museum of Modern Art in New York for the next few months.
The technology certainly looks impressive; the phone can be used as a keyboard and then 'folded' up to become a more traditional handset and has the power to run on solar energy.
It also has the capacity to be bent into a bracelet or ring shape, potentially wrapped around the wrist for ease of access, and can take on the same colours as the clothes a user is wearing.
Nokia confidently predicts that the concept may "reinvent the form and function of mobile devices".
Dr Tapani Ryhanen, head of the NRC Cambridge UK laboratory, Nokia, said: "We hope that this combination of art and science will showcase the potential of nanoscience to a wider audience.
"The research we are carrying out is fundamental to this as we seek a safe and controlled way to develop and use new materials." Not only that, Nokia also claims the nanotechnology will be able to "monitor evolving conditions in the quality of our surroundings".
This could be in the form of informing us if a piece of fruit needs washing before eating or as complex as warning of an imminent disease pandemic.
But the Finnish phone maker is not expecting mobile phone users to be showing off the Morph technology any time soon and suggests it will not be ready for seven years, and even then only at the high end.

Wow that's an all around gadget. hope it gets out of the concept board and into a final product.
Ghost Ship
A wrist band that can do everything. Including floating you to school using gravity waves or something. Again..i envy the future generations.

I definately like it, but will it get good reception? Will the battery act kooky after the first few months or weeks? my old phone I had for 5 years or so... I traded it in last year for a razor that gets crappy reception, battery comes and goes, and isn't exactly comfy to hold on the shoulder... I've had other people tell me they don't like their "new" phones much either for same/similar reasons... will this one be the same?

yeah i own one of those sony ericsson music phones. this is the second one i've had in the past 3 months. The first one just stopped reading my sim card and now this one doesnt even play music anymore because the memory card slot is broken. Plus its flimsy and it feels like it would break just by dropping it.

Hmm, i can see a few design floors, i guess they would have to change the sim cards and the sd card slots, and i may even go as far as saying its going to be dear as hell, also i wonder if it will still emit radiation.

Don't all mobile phones emit radiations fears!A new chip is being designed to reduce or stop this.
Are you just saying this because the prototype is green(bit like kryptonite hey)

Cool looking phone. But have to agree with some of the things others have brought up. How reliable will it be? And probably going to be way too expensive.
