Can the underlying strata of an area dictate what type of haunting you may encounter ? Such as quartz and water amplifying paranormal activity, and creating natural portals ? Or Sandstone amplifying poltergeist activity ? And may we able to predict the time, type, and even area of activity ? Could the collection of data such as temperature, time, and weather combined with the area's strata finally give the investigator better odds of collecting evidence of the paranormal ? Perhaps ! The Stanly Hotel is reputed to be one of the most haunted places in America, and yet no tragedy has ever happened here. So why is it so haunted ? Perhaps the clue to this lye's in the make up of ground located underneath. The mountain is made up of quartz and underground streams. A basic radio is crystal and current. Water amplifies, and natural lay lines could supply the current causing the worlds largest transmitter. If this may be the case then could investigators study this phenomina and possibly locate through collected data, area's of potential activity resulting in more fruitful evidence collection ?

This would mean the departed would have to seek out earth's anomalies over the very reasons they continue to roam. I think where they lived and loved is where they will remain.

. . .just my 2 cents.

I wasn't so much as talking about the dead looking for portals. As I was being able to identify hot spots of activity at certain times under certain conditions, for better evidence collection. So that investigative groups wouldn't work an area for 8 hrs hoping to get some thing, but may eventually work an area for 2 hrs and catch a bunch. The Stratton was just an example of this theory.

i think in some spots there are 'hot spots' but i believe they are not caused by any natural sources such as quiartz but by imprints of large events i.e. a battle, a mine collapse, a murder. i know that many spirits do stay where they were killed if they died violently, my house has a little girl who died because of one of her parents. you can never see her face just the dark outline of her body and shes always crying, it scares my little sister out of her wits

There's also the concept of lay lines (sp?). Paths of natural magentic and geo-energy.

Excellent thread OP.

I have often wondered and asked the same thing. My house has spirit's. One grounded and many other's just hanging and then leaving. I live just outside of Washington, DC and have seen a full figure Civil War man apparition. My house was built on a stream and my grandparents were the original owners; both died in the room I sleep in at night-- years apart from one another. I have a couple threads regarding this but no real responses/help/knowledge towards my predicament.

I also live across from a 70 acres open field that is the home to 4 huge radio transmitter towers 6,000 watts AM directional signal. I personally feel that I'm sitting on some sort of hot spot. A friend of mine is an anthrpological archieologist. She has helped me with the history of the land and that my home is built on a stream.

I also garden. The reason I bring this up is because I'm always digging up lumps of quartz (lol I now have a rock garden too from all of the stuff I've dug up). My son and I even got into rock tumbling and some of the peices are beautiful. Anyway, I truly think the combination I have going here is something. Oh yea, I also call my house the "spirit party house". No real danger and nothing negative.

Outside of my immediate family, I've had over 15+ witnesses of at least one of my spirits. ((One time it was a friend of my daughters at a sleepover w00t.gif- not a cool night for that poor girl!)) Anyway, I usually do not speak openly about this (except on this forum) so not many know; outside of random witnesses and of course other family members who lived here before me.

Thank for the thread. Hopefully I'll learn something new thumbsup.gif

This is a very interesting subject and poses intelligent questions. I am afraid I cannot help here though as I have rarely considered geological strata as elements to be considered in paranormal activity. I have often read, though, that sites and buildings on land that have aquifers beneath them tend to be haunted. Perhaps I should say that the other way round: houses that are haunted tend to have running water near or under them. I think I'd like to do some research into this subject. I hope all you others will, too, and post the results here. wink2.gif

The general pattern of hauntings seem to be that that they occur where people have worked/lived/or even died. There has to be some human activity in a place for a period of time for a haunting to occur later. Just because someone has not died there, does not preclude a haunting from happening. I think it's a misconception of most to think that a ghost has to haunt the spot where it's living part died.

Your theory about the geological environment affecting the power or frequency of hauntings is not too distant from the stone tape recorder theory (although it is now accepted that stone is not the only material that seems to store a 'signal'.

Also, a lot of hauntings (especially the more powerful ones) occur in places where water is present - i.e. the most haunted house in England is Chingle Hall - it has a moat of sorts. The water could be a lake, a stream or even an underground source.

Maybe adding together the presence of water with a good geological conductor like quartz, for example, might indicate a spot where a haunting might be more powerful?

I like the idea.

I can see it almost like an AM radio, with the ghosts as frequencies. Some come in strong no matter what, others you need to tweak the dial and have the right conditions to receive the broadcast.

and if you think about it, some of the most haunted places meet these criteria, for example, the inn mentioned in the orig post, the Tower of London, and considering that many medieval castles were built over a spring or stream, well the whole thing makes sense to me. This post sounded a lot better in my head. i need coffee.

Then how would you explain the Stratton Inn ? There has never been a recorded death. No Graveyards, battels or otherwise. And yet it is reputed to be one of the most haunted places in the US ?! And the data would seem to support that strata can determin the type of haunting you may incounter in an area.

So then your home would qualify as a hot spot with an outside electrical field. If you took into account the time of day and outside weather conditions, and applied it to activity, then you may see a pattern develop and be able to predict when activity would be most active.

And if it makes you think out side the box then it did its job !! And figuring the strata is as easy as calling the local colleges Geological Dept. or the states. They will tell you what the composition of an area is.
