Just finished reading In Broad Daylight about Ken McElroy, the man who bullied and terrorized people in and around the town of Skidmore, Missouri. It's amazing and appalling that this man got away with what he did, stealing livestock and equipment from farmers, raping and assaulting over so many years. Part of the reason is that he had a slick lawyer who always got him off all charges. All this until one day he was shot and killed by townspeople who decided they had had enough of him and the inability of local justice system to do anything about him.
