Full Version: forensic experts create image of Bach

Forensic anthropologists have created an image of what Bach really looked like based on his skull (which is in a museum somewhere). This was done by the same experts who reconstruct faces from skeletal remains for "missing persons" detectives. It looks quite a bit like the only portrait Bach ever actually sat for but totally unlike the cliched image we have of him.

The implication (since they use these artists' results to ID missing people) is that after looking at this portrait you would have been able to identify Bach on the street (!)

Thanks for that...it's not really like I pictured him....

QUOTE
Bach's bones were excavated in 1894 and sculptors first used them to help create a bust in 1908. But it was mainly based on a portrait of the composer, and contemporary critics said it was so inaccurate that it might as well have been the composer Handel.

EXCAVATED!! What a polite way to say they dug him up!
