CINCINNATI -- A 3-year-old girl is recovering with relatives as police try to determine who’s responsible for getting her drunk and injuring the child.

“This is a very serious case; it's troubling,” said Kenton County Prosecutor Ken Easterling.

The girl, whose name was not released, was treated Feb. 22 for serious injuries at Children’s Hospital, where investigators also discovered her blood-alcohol level was nearly twice the legal limit for adults.

Police said the girl, who turned 3 years old in December, had suffered a small amount of bleeding on her brain, eye damage consistent with being shaken, neck and shoulder injuries, two broken bones in her left arm, bruises all over her body.

“The arm fractures and bleeding are classic signs of being shaken,” Easterling said. “But there are so many different types of injuries to this 3-year-old that I can only speculate as to how it all occurred.”

Investigators said the child also had abrasions on her lips from being force-fed alcohol, and her blood-alcohol level measured 0.15.

“She did not get into alcohol and drink it herself,” Easterling said. “We believe that someone made her consume alcohol.”

Police in Covington and Elsmere are investigating the incident, but Easterling confirmed the child’s mother was among four adult relatives under investigation.

Children's Protective Services was notified by Children's Hospital when the girl arrived, and she was placed with relatives not under investigation while police determine whom to charge.

Investigators believe the girl's 4-year-old sister might have witnessed some or all of the abuse

This is horrible what this little one has gone through.....Reading about child abuse is one thing that boils my Italian blood...Noone, especially a child should have to go through any kind of abuse, and what they did to her was past this...As SS79 said, hopefully her sister will be able to help out, although this has to be traumatic for her as well.....Fortunately they are with relatives, and weren't put into foster homes........

Oh i am so on the same page as you! This just sickens me, as does any child abuse! I can feel my blood pressure rising when i read about these little ones being used, and abused for someones anger or amusement!

This is disgusting...... people that abuse children are the lowest of the low, to me. They're deliberately picking someone who can't fight back because they're cowards with no conscience. I hope whoever did this is put in jail and has to endure 'jailhouse justice'.

The only thing I can see thats 'good' in this story is that the children are still alive and relatively young and at a resiliant age where they can move on from this kind of sick sh** and be placed in a home with people who love them and will care for them properly.

exatly wolfox, when i hear of things like this my blood boils. i just want to get o hold of the person who did it and,,,,well i won't go into that.

Oh my gosh. . I have a three year old. . .I know they get to be a handful every now and then but Geez! What kind of person could hurt a little kid? That's just monstrous! They're so helpless. . .I hope whoever did it gets what they deserve. . .life in prison . . .that would be worse than the death penalty, that would be too quick. A guy I know went to prison, and he said that the ones that commit crimes against children get the crap beat out of them on a regular basis, which is exactly what they deserve. They need to see how it feels!

Poor Girl. But i can relate to an extent. My sister thought it would be funny if she spiked my orange juice with vodka at my 4th birthday. I got my first hang over very early in life lol.

OK....so there I am....not quite a toddler cause my parents put me in the walker and I refused to walk, let alone toddle....Well at some point either my uncle or father gives me a sip of their beer. Next thing you know, I'm walking, but only when they're offering me sips of beer.....My uncle stands at one end of the room holding out his beer can for me...and I walk....and then back to my Dad for more beer....I learned to walk....
