My husband's mother lives in a house built on land where the Civil War was fought, and he has told me stories about things that have happened there ever since they built the house in 1968. I thought that was all in the past but it turns out things are still happening there. Due to illness, my husband (John) has been staying there, and he has seen and experienced things even recently.
When he was still living at home, they would hear sounds of voices and movement in the upstairs as if a party was going on. They could never make out anything that was being said. One night when he was home by himself, John heard footsteps coming down the stairs on the other side of the wall from where he was sitting. The footsteps stopped at the bottom, but he didn't dare open the door to see who or what might be there.
Years back, John was helping a neighbor dig next to his house and they found a human skeleton. The Virginia Medical Examiner's Office in Richmond confirmed that it was a confederate soldier from the Civil War. Also, John one time had a CW cannon ball in his bedroom and kept seeing flashes of light in the room at night. After he took the cannon ball out of the house, the lights stopped appearing.
More recently, my mother-in-law was pulling in to her driveway and saw the upper half of a woman in her front window. It appeared gray and had it's hair up in a bun style. My mother-in-law also sometimes feels someone sitting down on her bedside, but feels that it is her deceased husband. While checking on the house while her grandma was away on vacation, my daughter heard footsteps walking around upstairs.
My husband has been sleeping in the family room downstairs recently, and has heard footsteps in the kitchen and the sound of a clock chiming where there was none. He also woke up one night to see a gray figure standing nearby. Thinking it was his mom, he called out but got no answer. He called again as the figure moved to the kitchen doorway, and he finally realized it wasn't his mom.
Other things have happened too, and I think it's just so interesting. As I said, I thought this was all in the past but my mother-in-law says things have been on-going and she has just gotten used to them.
What do you think?

I think that strange things, sometimes inexplicable, happen where there has been a lot of death-especially violent death. What battlefield was this on or near?

wow looks like the house has a bit of history, kinda freaky that you guys are still finding bones there, i hope some of them are able to be identified, so families can rest.

Great stuff.
Sounds a lot like a haunting in my mum's home, but without the apparitions you mentioned.
The audible phenomenon (like the sound of voices talking but the words themselves are not discernible) are classic happenings.

Sounds scary as hell, but the fact that you all know it's Civil War ground and of the stigma that comes with that kind of event suggests that you are predisposed to looking for such things while in the house and your mind interprets these stimulae as footsteps and people.

I feel you may be experiencing ordinary things and because you know of the houses violnt history are prone to count them as ghosts. Remember, there is always an explanation, even if oits not one we understand yet. I believe yours is very easily explained but still it was a lovely scary story, similar to a film me and my friends made when we were 13, including the cannonball and half woman apparation, except we were high so ours was surreal and super trippy lol.
If this is a real haunting, which is unlikely but not impossible, try to help the spirits cross over. Use your sense. Your sixth one. And inviting Bruce Willis round might help too...

Cool story...so your hubby is staying there now? Well, definitely keep us abreast of any new experiences he has while there. Freaky about the half woman.
This is cool to me because believe had a WW2 soldier haunting my home in Europe. We were on an old battlefield too. These battlefields seem to have a lot of paranormal activity.

I think Civil War apparitions are one of the most common seen...The house has alot of history, considering it's built on past war grounds...Obviously it was also used for burial, but I would go to the town hall, and see if I could get all the history on the land, and if any other homes were there before your mother-in-law built hers...Interesting story.......

You are clearly quite spiritual, which isn't a complaint or an attack mind you, but I think that makes you easier to be convinced you're being haunted.

I'm not gonna try and force my Christian faith on anyone,I'm just gonna state my opinion.
Demons.
A while back when i was about 12,i had an encounter that still scares me sumtimes.Basically i was in bed, with the sheets over my head(i was scared of the dark, lol).I lifted up the sheets for some reason and there beside my bed was this weird, kinda ape-ish looking creature, just sitting there. At the time i was terrified of apes.Idk why it was just a stage i was goin through. So anyway this scared me out of my mind.I quickly pulled the sheets back over my head and prayed.I could still see the shadow of it through the sheets, and as i said "Jesus help me..." it faded away. When i lifted the sheets it was gone.
Many of my friends have said it was a dream, but i know it wasn't.All of my dreams are like goin to Wille Wonka's Chocolate Factory. This was too real.So basically wat i wanted to say was that i believe there are demons, not spirits of dead ppl. When ppl die they go to heaven or hell.Ghosts don't exist.Demons, however, are very real, and they do have a certain amount of power.Maybe even physical power(the classic scratch marks),idk. And Satan can mess with ur mind and make u see things that he knows will scare u.Anyway that's just my opinion.

I am Crishtian so whatever, and I see what you mean. I've been in contact with demons before...

Set up cameras and try for some good video. Why not try to make a little cash from it? This is what people want to see.

I dont think your lying, because paranormal activity is more likely at old battlefields than a normal area. People say that anywhere that there was a violent death or very dramatic, its possible that the person's spirit will still roam there.

I like the idea you could exploit this "haunting" for money...
