Full Version: Is a challenge an insult...or a curiosity?

I was reading a few comments from people on several topic posts and it got me thinking...

When someone deliberatly states "I enjoying pissing off Christians because they take Christ so seriously" it's obviously for their own pleasure that they are doing this. Which in my opinion is absolutly wrong! angry.gif

You shouldn't bash down someones belief that they take seriously because I'm sure that you wouldn't want that in return. Why should we fight when we can learn?

If you wish to make a point about something regarding your beliefs that contradicts anothers then do it, sure, but do it without the mere intention of pissing that person off.
I don't see the point of saying what you believe in if it's just to hurt another...to me if you're going to say something about your belief then say it to educate and not to corrupt.

I will admit that I enjoy challenging peoples beliefs, but not to hurt them... I do it because I not only want to learn from their beliefs but I want to show them my own so that we may come to an understanding and new respect for each other. I never mean to insult those that I have discussions with, I only mean to make them think. Also, if the person I am challenging or just talking to makes a valid point then I take that into consideration and tell them that they are right.

Now when I challenge someone I don't just say "Hey, I think you're wrong!" I'm not that rude. I get into conversation with them by asking them questions about what they believe so that I can understand them and their belief better.

So my question is... Does this challenging sound like I'm insulting the person? Or does it seem like a genuine curiosity? huh.gif

Absolutely, insulting someone because of their faith is horrible and childish. I don't have a problem with people insulting religion; but to bring it down to a personal level is cruel and uncalled for.

I don't think it is insulting to ask why someone believes the way they do. It is great dialogue to engage in and learn something new.

I dont think its insulting to ask. I do believe its wrong for people to bash others religions though and just for the heck of it. I know that some people try to shove their religion down others throats but its still no good reason to attack them for it. i just think that some people really try to get gods word out to everyone. I hate how some christians shove the word done others throats but then again theyre only trying to get the message out.

eh what ever I can disagree on that freedom of speech Christians do the same don't you think I feel the same way about evolution that its real.

I certainly do not mind being asked about my religion, or anything else really, and I do not hesitate to ask when I have a question. The bashing and personal attacks are horrid to me. I would never put in to print, art (including cartoons) the kind of hateful expressions about atheists as I see so many atheists do about religious people.

It is wrong to be hurtful towards someone just because they are a highly devoted Christian or any othe religion. Just some people are more devoted than others I guess, and some people just don't understand why, because they aren't like that.

Their should not be a special amunity given to religon, so what if people belive its true or not they go against everything logic, faith doesnt equal truth at all. Is ashame that religon gets a free pass and science or any other subject doesnt get that, freedom of speech

Like I said, religon is a choice for people they are not forced to belive it so, scrutiny should be abled to be aplyed to it such as any other topic. Its not like we are talking about mentally ill people who do not have a choice to be the way the are.I am talking about people with a choice.

I would have to say if you're merely asking questions about someones religion and why they beleieve the things that they do is not insulting at all. I mean I guess it does come down to how you go about it and not saying something like "NO! You're wrong! Why would you think something as stupid as that?" cause thats just rude and obnoxious. But I do agree that there are some people who just out right say "no you're wrong" whenever you try to express your own opinion which is completely unfair.

Hi WT -- I will answer your question using words, copied from your own post, as follows:

"Do not bash down someone’s belief. Make a point regarding your beliefs, but not to hurt them; do it to learn from their beliefs, so that we may come to an understanding and new respect for each other."

Would you agree with that? original.gif
