YOU are a soldier, and you are on the front line, you see your county's enemy staring at you.

You lift up your scope and aim directly for his head.

Suddenly, something hits your mind, a flow of thoughts pour into your head for 11 seconds, and they say to you:
"what if i was him?"
"wouldnt we all like to live on both sides? why am i fighting?"
"if we were in the same country i wouldnt kill him"
"we are both human - what are we doing?"
"man i feel bad for him"
"should i do this?"
"alright, ill do it, but only for MY COUNTRY"
"i hate what im doing right now"
"im killing an innocent mind working for an antichrist government"

So you carry on. "Nice" you say, you killed the sucker.

11 minutes pass by and it hits you hard. What if you were him?

The above situation is what would go through any good minded soldiers head. So why join the military?

Its proof the human species want peace, and not war.

If you took that long to reflect on it, you'd be dead and it would no longer matter to you.

Given that people in modern western democracies are rarely, if ever, executed anymore for refusing to be combat soldiers in their armed forces, it is really incumbent on people to have their moral /ethical beliefs worked out and appliedp long before they find themselves in this situation.

So you are probably doimg some people a favour by asking them to reflect on it right now.
