What do you guys think of Destination Truth & the new episode that premiered?

I would be impressed if the Yeti was discovered before the legendary Bigfoot.

I kind of liked the episode. I watched all of last season. I could be wrong, but it seems like they are bringing the teammates into the picture this time instead of focusing on Josh. I liked that better. I like the humor and that they aren't stuck up. It was a little frustrating when the woman was freaking out, but I suppose it's natural in the given situation (if it's real, that is). It would be fantastic to find the Yeti. If one is found I have a feeling that I'll wish it never happened, though.

I like the show, even if most of the time they find absolutely nothing. Josh is a perfect host for something like this. He's funny, and a smartass. He approaches things with an open mind, but is still somewhat skeptical.
The only thing that drives me crazy, even though it happens on other shows as well, is when something is spotted on the thermal camera. When they see something on it, they simply stop and watch it on the camera. It drives me crazy!! Why don't they go after whatever it is they are seeing, instead of sitting there, watching it, until it goes away?? Then, it is too late to try and follow it.

I like the show, but Josh and Co. are very loud and clumsy out in the wilderness. I'm sure they terrify the local wildlife with their 'bull in the china shop' apporach to investigation.

Their Mongolian Death Worm episode was interesting, but a complete bust. Equipment failures shut down much of their work, and all they came up with soil samples, eyewitness accts, and some burrows that were probably from rodents.

The Yeti ep did produce some interesting -- and presumably fresh -- tracks. That's a good find.

I loved when they got jerked around by the islands natives, if that's what they were. It seemed realllllly staged. That's what I think, anyway. I can't believe they were pleading about a chicken. Pleading about a chicken and putting it on TV to look good? They're definitely kissing someones butt.

I dunno --I do like the show, and at times Josh Gates is very funny...I too like his 'smartassedness'...but there are times when he crosses the line with it and disrespects the locals. Ugly American is the term that comes to mind.

I didn't want to be the one to say it. He wasn't that great with the locals last night. Most everyone knows when someone is being sarcastic, regardless of language. He should show more respect when he's shown local customs. I still have to watch the deathworm half of the episode. The spirit part just bugged me on so many levels. I did enjoy them getting jerked around, staged or not.

Wow, it amazes me how much anti-america stuff makes it onto these forums. What does the fact that he is a smartass have anything to do with him being american?? I've traveled all over the world, and met smartasses in every culture, and in every country I have been in.
And as far as him being disrespectfull to other peoples cultures, isn't calling someone and ugly american disrespectfull to an entire culture???

I started watching this show last season and became hooked so I've started with the new one and the show is a good and it's perfect to watch after Ghost Hunters. I don't know if I have a favorite episode yet, but the big foot one sticks out the most in my mind.

Being a smart ass is just fine. Going too far with it is not. I watched the Mongolian deathworm segment. I can't imagine buying food in a foreign market and spitting the food all over the floor, in front of the vendor. The act itself was mortifying, as is the fact that he was adding to a stereotype. Everyone in my house thought it was disgusting and improper. It bothers me that it has become such an all encompassing stereotype, because I'm not like that and I don't want to be seen that way. So many people are, though. Few people have manners within the country, and I can't imagine how they'd behave over seas. They have this need to touch everything (including paintings and ancient art), eat everything, and throw their junk wherever they want. No please, thank you, excuse me, mister, miss, etc. ever passes their lips. Its awful because so many people aren't like that, and we shouldn't be generalized. Anyway, it was really neat that they found those fossils. There is no way I'd ever stick my hand into a marmot's burrow. Noooo way. I'm sure the gloves were thick, but I still can't help but imagine how nasty the bite would be.

The team seems to flip out when ever they hear a noise, or a bush moves to make it seem like the show is actually exciting. Really it's just some douche openly mocking village people that don't know any better while simultaneously chasing creatures that do not exist.

Yet for some reason I continue to watch.

What I like about the show is that the team + Josh bring personality to their work. Yeah, they may jump at times when something happens. However, when something ( that could be paranormal or unexplained happens ) how would you react? I'm an experienced ghost hunter myself and find it hard to keep your composure when you are caught by surprise. As a school bus driver by day, being on the road as much as I am, I'm taught to expect the unexpected. I bring that motto to my ghost hunting. But its very hard when you just don't know when its going to happen. What I also like is they investigate scientifically. They are open minded + skeptical. More shows of the paranormal need to bring both to the plate during investigations. It keeps it real and objective.

I like the technical equipment they use too. Its very close to what we use in ghost hunting. However, the night shot video they use seem to be at some kind of high resolution which is also probably very expensive. Its cool when Josh appears on a couple of Ghost Hunters episodes.

The Smurfs blow away PS.lol

I do enjoy Destination Truths. The fact that the main guy has a sense of humor makes all the difference.

I like the show, its very good. The only thing that I don't like about it is, it starts at 10pm on Wensday and thats when South Park is on. So I actually only get to watch 30 minutes of the show.

Exactly. I agree on all of this. They may be a little jumpy, but put yourself in the middle of nowhere, on a strange contintent, in a strange country, surrounded by God knows what, waiting for some strange beastie to come running out of forest to supposedly chomp on your noggin, when all of the sudden you hear a branch break a few feet behind you. Wouldn't you be a little jumpy??

And, a live web feed of my grass growing blows away paranormal state!!!

I'm not making an anti-American statement, what I'm saying is he personifies what the world thinks about us Americans (I am one BTW). Loud, arrogant and brash. I'm not saying the stereotypes are true, but Mr. Gates is helping reinforce it with his behavior. Again, I do like his quick wit at times, but quite often he disrespects (my opinion) the local folks, especially if they do not speak English. I think its wrong that he does.

But, seriously, I do like the show, but when he does that it makes me cringe.
Pluto-x
I don't think he's disrespecting the locals on purpose or using any harmful intent. I believe since he is in an unfamiliar territory or country, he uses his sense of humor to lighten up the tension between the two cultures. I am sure the locals have no idea or never lived in our culture to understand our American ways. After all, look at how they still live? If they knew anything about American personality, I am sure they would of felt offended or wouldn't be afraid to step up and say hey, you are offending my people watch it! They wouldn't even allow Josh or his team to step one foot inside half of these countries if he ever offended them in anyway. They wouldn't invite him in if he did. I am sure his sense of humor is trying to just simply lighten up the tension. Some of it may be in poor taste, but how would you feel if you never spoke their language or knew anything about them? Like an outcast? Outsider? I don't agree with spitting out their food after it being offered to them. But that's all I have disagreed with about anything regarding any disrespect. Other wise, considering where they travel to, I think they do a splendid job with interacting with the locals with the given circumstances they are put in.

supervike
True, I don't think he does it intentionally to be mean. I do think you are right, he's trying to lighten the mood, get a chuckle out of his crew, etc. ..BUT there are times when, and especially on camera, when its a bit too much (this is just my opinion)

Still, its one of the best 'paranormal' shows on tv...even though they are beginning to get into the habit of having 'strange things' happen to them on each adventure, only to have it be 'unsubstantiated' at the end of the episode.
