user posted image rIn olden days, the deadly sins included lust, gluttony and greed. Now, the Catholic Church says pollution, mind-damaging drugs and genetic experiments are on its updated thou-shalt-not list. Also receiving fresh attention by the Vatican was social injustice, along the lines of the age-old maxim: "The rich get richer while the poor get poorer." In the Vatican's latest update on how God's law is being violated in today's world, Monsignor Gianfranco Girotti, the head of the Apostolic Penitentiary, was asked by the Vatican newspaper L'Osservatore Romano what, in his opinion, are the "new sins." He cited "violations of the basic rights of human nature" through genetic manipulation, drugs that "weaken the mind and cloud intelligence," and the imbalance between the rich and the poor. "If yesterday sin had a rather individualistic dimension, today it has a weight, a resonance, that's especially social, rather than individual," said Girotti, whose office deals with matters of conscience and grants absolution. It's not the first time that the Vatican has sought to put a modern spin on sin. Last year, the Vatican took on the problem of highway accidents, issuing a kind of "Ten Commandments" for drivers against the sins of road rage, alcohol abuse and even rudeness behind the wheel. Vatican officials, however, stressed that Girotti's comments broke no new ground on what constitutes sin. On the environment, both Pope Benedict XVI and the late Pope John Paul II frequently expressed concern about the fate of the Earth. During Benedict's papacy, Vatican engineers have developed plans for some Holy See buildings to use solar energy, including photovoltaic cells on the roof of the auditorium for pilgrims' audiences with the pontiff.

John Paul also dedicated much of his long papacy to condemning the gap between have and have-nots in speeches in his travels throughout the world as well as in writings. "The poor are always becoming poorer and the rich ever more rich, feeding unsustainable social injustice," Girotti said in the interview published Sunday.

Now that all these problems are at global epidemic/pandemic almost at critical stages, we'll voice our concerns & add extra guilt trips lol sorry, commandments. Stay with us tho, we'll actually do something ourselves about it in 20 or 30 yrs time. But in the meantime we'll continue to get incredibly wealthy off our business interests around the globe & of course you our humble followers with which none of this would have been possible...

...and to think tho, i was pounced upon in the religion threads when i question the Vatican & RCC's cosy connection ('they have nothing to do with one another') err yep, ok...

I say the would be a good idea add the '11 commandment' before any of those listed above...

'Thy shalt not get caught loving thy neighbor'

So now the church is up to about 25 commandments....As to the poor get poorer, and the rich get rich, how true...The church's just keep getting richer and richer...What really bothered me was the comment about the abuse of priests on children...How the media blew it up and it should be disregarded...It's crap like this that makes me glad I changed my religion...I don't need to follow all their rules and regulations to know what kind of a person I am, or to believe in what I believe in....
www375
The only religion I need is to be the best person I can be, and the rest will take care of itself. I don't need someone who claims to know more than I do telling me what to beleive. There are too many child molesting holy men, Jim Jones types, and flat out fakes out there for my tastes.

''Thou shalt practice what thou preach''

The Italian priest saying Mass in what looked like a gold plated church near the Spanish Steps in Rome was about to give his sermon when in stormed a street beggar screaming at the top of his lungs.

"Give me the money and give it to the starving people like me. All criminals at the altar, especially you Father with all those golden rings and chalices!" cried the street person in Italian, as several church ushers rushed to remove him from the premises.

While being pushed out of the Church like a piece of garbage, he made one last plea to those attending Holy Sunday Mass. "Don't give him the money, please don't give it him! I need to eat. So do many others. All they do here is steal your money while many die in the streets.!"

Great article REBEL, thanks...actuall it was mindboggling...For years the Vatican has been stuffing the truth up their butts, and it was when I started realiziing the reality in this that I decided that I didn't need a Catholic Church to tell me what to believe and who to believe....You know, growing up, it was all about the church and the Vatican was never bought into anything we heard...Amazing, that as the years went by, and I got older original.gif the perspective you have as a kid changes....That's when one realizes that it's not about the religion anymore, it's about greed....

Ya our parish is growing, and the school has a waiting list too, but they are getting to "pushy" for mo' money, for my liking. I got a little belligerent towards the church treasure, a few weeks ago, he said we wern't giving enough, so we were put into the "b" catagory for tuition. I asked him "whats the dollar amount you are looking for?". He couldn't give me an answer. So how does he know what enoogh is? Im below average of the week. I know where he lives. thumbsup.gif

Let me tell ya, six years ago they wanted to build this huge extension onto one of the churchs (with a school)...They sent letters to every parishoner, and every non-parishoner that they wanted to join, for a certain percentage of their salary every week...Talk about brass berries....Obviously, they got the money because the church was built and they've added on masses.....unbelievable...Check out how much time you'll get for injuring a church treasurer before you hurt him laugh.gif

Actually, myself, my brothers, cousins, and around 100 people that I am still on a friendly basis with went through 12 years of catholic school and didn't get molested once. Maybe we are all just unattracitve as children?

The overwhelming vast majority of priests, deacons, bishops, cardinals, etc, didn't know anything about specific molestation. And even though the crimes are unforgettable and maybe even unforgivable, the church still has a duty to lead it's congregation in moral issues.

Children are getting abused every day, but when your bought up to respect your priest, and look up to him as if God is talking through him, then find out that he, or someone in the chuch has molested kids, then he is no different then a pedophile on the street....Obviously people are leaving the church because they no longer believe or trust in the moral issues that their preaching...

Yes, alot of people are still staying and joining, but as you also said, alot of Church's and schools are closing too...I guess there's no happy medium...I just don't believe that you have to go to any particular church to believe...Lets face it, if we all believed in the same religion, the world would be more messed up.... original.gif

I agree completely. But I also think that when a religion FINALLY adresses modern issues and tries to guide it's members when dealing with those issues, those who aren't in that religion should keep their criticisms to themselves, unless criticizing the behaviour that is being advocated. there is nothing wrong with guiding modern catholics through modern issues. It's the least that a religion should be doing.

There is absolutely nothiing wrong with guiding Catholics through modern issues, but I'm older than dirt original.gif and saw so many changes in the church that I couldn't adjust...It seemed like it happened overnight, of course it didn't, but I was from the old school and wanted things to stay the same....This was impossible, I know, but with each Sunday, and each change, I just decided that it was no longer for me....Today's church is very different from what I hear, and yes, it should still teach the morals and lead the parishoners but I can believe at home, in my car or anywhere I want...I'm not overly religious, as you can tell, and what's right for some isn't right for others......... original.gif

One thing I DO know. I trust my intelligence, my instincts, and my moral compass. I don't NEED anyone else for guidance. What makes them more qualified than I am? When I find myself in a position where I might need a little advice, I'll find find someone qualified in that particular area. In the absence of that, I'll rolls the dice and takes me chances........lol

The new commandments like not polluting and correcting the imbalance between the rich and the poor are good things but IMO they are things people should already know, the only thing that really strikes me as stupid and dangerous is the no genetic manipulation (stem cell research) commandment, this would appear to be a thinly veiled attack on a very important new science that will most probably enhance humanity more than anyone could ever imagine, it has the ability to rid us of all the diseases and afflictions we might be affected by.

The Catholic Church once charged Galileo with heresy because he suggested that the Earth revolved around the Sun! I know it sounds silly but they really did think that way 400 years ago but over time this fact has become 99% of peoples belief on where our planet fits into the solar system.

We have been held back by religious Dogma for to long, what good can come from not answering the questions that have been asked?

This no genetic manipulation commandment is not in the best interests of humanity, I suggest that a commandment that said "Thou shalt not be ignorant and Hypocritical" would be more appropriate and beneficial to humanity.

I for one, when I was very young, did believe in the church and about all the sins that we can and some commit. Today, I do not go to any church(s) because of the changes in the liturgy. My grandmother who raised me said that since priest could and do eat meat on holy Fridays so we could as well as she knew well that they do and did. I, being afraid of the church but more afraid of my grandmother I tended to believe my grandmother. The family says that she was a very progressive women of her time and I tend to believe them. We did practice the churches teaching some what or mostly and still we believe that we are a good Catholic family. We did pray a lot and were a very good family but also so very poor. We did evidently grew up and made our way in life and make something of ourselves. We had some bad and some good jobs in our life and were able to save enough money to buy the things we needed to live a better life than the one we grew up in. What I am trying to say is you make what you want to be. The poor don't seem to want to get out of their rot and so they stay there with the help of the social services. If you have a good family to guide you correctly into the right directions you will have to succeed in life. Sometimes not in the very best of life but much better than the poor. The more you apply the more you get from it. I hope that I made myself clear in this matter and sometimes I just ramble on and on so please forgive me. Thank you
Oen Anderson
In his book, Tilley talked about how his stranded brother went to the catholic church for help and the priest said he would pray for him to get the help he needed. He got the help down the street at a Baptest church. They fed him, gave him a bus ticket home and gave him traveling money. Tilley said, "Thank God that catholic priest prayed for him". Tilley has an entire chapter in his book related to religon and money, so it's nothing new that the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. The biggest sin is ignorance.

Yes, it hasn't been a secret that the catholic church is run by the biggest hypocrites in the world. How do you just come up with commandments? Were these brought down from Mt. Sinai as well? Or maybe this is from the tablet that Moses dropped...remember there were originally three (according to the History of the World Part 1)...lol. The church really needs to listen to the people and give back the money it has taken from its followers and help the needy. Does the pope and his minions really need to be clothed in gold? They really should be a shamed of themselves for having the power to do a lot of good, but instead would rather get rich and treat its followers as peons. I was raised a catholic, but my mind was too open for their liking and so I am not welcome since I tend to "infect" their flock...lol. If letting people think for themselves is blasphemous them I'm going straight to hell. I respect all religions, but catholicism is borderline criminal, and in some cases straight out criminal. Although there could be a solution...tax the churches since they are a "for profit" organization and if they do contribute to charities...they can write it off (with proof/receipts). Just my .02

Yes, it was bad. yes it is unforgettable. Yes, it may be unforgivable.

But they released a declaration for their own people on how to behave in light of the modern world.

Why do you folks have a problem with that?

The Catholic Church as a whole has committed the crime of haboring known child predators and helping these priests move to other churches where they can start their indecent actions all over again, not to mention to help get them out of criminal charges. Also knowing that some of their priests are hurting children and not turning them in to the police.

How can any self respecting Catholic listen to anything they say, when they themselves do not know how to "behave in this modern world"?

How can you speak of emotional malice towards the church, when that church protects the very people that inflicts such physical and emotional pain on these young innocent children?????

Ah the Catholic church issues new commandments. Yeah notice however they take no heed of any of them. You want to find those most indulgent in Lust, Gluttony, and Greed then look no further then the upper ranks of the Catholic church. Not many of them are thin by any means, they're all pretty damned well off and as for lust that manifest in two ways. Secret relationships with some chick who's most likely a prostitute or an encounter with a small boy. These are the last people that should be talking about these things. All the Catholic church really is is a government type system set up to control others and make money. It saddens me to think they hide behind what at it's core is a good religion. You take down the governmental system of the catholic church and well then that will do something about these sins. I may be a Christian but I ain't catholic. I think common sense is a sin to them too.

Oh and speaking of new commandments here's some I found online that I think are a good idea.
