I heard a rumor that Beck's song was actually in reference to a west coast serial killer named The New Pollution. I looked it up just to see if I could find anything but didn't see much on this anywhere.

Here are the lyrics:
QUOTE
Shes got cigarette on each arm
Shes got the lily-white cavity crazes
Shes got a carborator tied to the moon
Pink eyes looking to the food of the ages

Shes alone in the new pollution
Shes alone in the new pollution

Shes got a hand on a wheel of pain
She can talk to the mangling strangers
She can sleep in a fiery bog
Throwing troubles to the dying embers

Shes alone in the new pollution
Shes alone in the new pollution

Shes alone in the new pollution
Shes alone in the new pollution

Shes got a paradise camoflauge
Like a whip-crack sending me shivers
Shes a boat through a strip-mine ocean
Riding low on the drunken rivers

Shes alone in the new pollution
Shes alone in the new pollution

The actual song is inspired by a song off the Beatle's album revolver. Both the Zodiac Killer and more modern but similar Daytona Beach Killer are said to be using a pistol to execute their victims.
