Why do we always judge individuals religious beliefs on the entire religion itself, I mean we see everyone as individuals in every other aspect except religion.
If your christian your blamed or grouped with all the fruits and nuts who just are out to get attention and they rarley are religious or beleve in the religion they are portraying they just seek to be heard for what THEY believe.
The muslims are seen as terrorst because of only some who claim to be muslims who kill to make a point and be heard.

Don't you think its time we started veiwing people as individuals in religion too. instead of sterotyping them for what some do?
I think we should veiw each person for who and what THEY stand for and believe.

What do you think........

Yes, Their religion tells a lot about the person.

Yes, Because I only associate with people who share my beliefs.

No, That's just wrong and judgemental.

No, Because i think we all could learn something from other religions.

Christianity is the one true religion all others are false.

I don't judge people by their religion only by their character and personality.

I don't have a religion so i really don't care.

I believe no one has the right to judge others even if they have a religion or not.

I don't judge people by their religion, and I sure hope people don't judge me by mine, I know there are stereotypes for religions, and just like most stereotypes, they are wrong most of the time, I know some Luciferians who are more kind than some Christians I know, but whenever I hang out with them and someone finds out they're a Luciferian they assume (without knowing anything about the religion other than it has the name Lucifer in it) that they are some evil person who would kill you as soon as look at you. And I do think that the worst of the group sticks out, which is why many people think Muslims are all terrorists, Christians are all intolerant, Luciferians/Satanists are all evil killers, etc. No matter if you have 1,000,000 good people in the group, if there is one or two who do something wrong, and the media gets a hold of what they did, your group will have a bad rep for a long time.

People are judged based on their religion for the same reasons they are judged based on their race. We have a thing for stereotyping EVERYBODY. It's just kind of the way humanity as a whole is. (Hey look, another stereotype! blink.gif ) In my opinion, it's basically just people wanting to feel like they're better than everyone else, so they manufacture and encourage lies about whatever other group they see fit.

If that was me, than I would be one lonely person! ohmy.gif

Well, I would actually answer in four of your sentences, that I think best reflects my feelings.

Mr Walker
Yep. Im sure that people who see me as a christian stereotype me in their minds. You can see this in response to some posts i write, where people respond not to what i said, but to what they assumed i said or meant (and i must have meant to say that because Im a christian)LOL

But people also stereotype me, im sure; because im male, because im white , because im Australian, and because im getting old.

The only one that really stands out is the last. If i forget someone's name now, its put down to me getting old and my memory going. In fact, despite an excellent memory for most things, ive always had trouble remembering peoples names. For example when interviewing parents i always make sure ive got the names of them, and their children, written down in front of me, so i dont risk forgetting who they are.

No one made an issue of it until they could connect it to the stereotype of old age.

I get a bit cranky only when people make unwarrranted conclusions, based on a stereotype, despite the fact that they have evidence to the contrary staring them in the face. But then older people are crankier anyway, arent they? cool.gif

Note quite.

Stereotypes are made in almost every aspect of life. The three biggest stereotypes involve Religion,Politics, and Race/Culture.Then there is Income,Living Conditions,Looks,Sexuality...etc.The stereotypes are only broken if and when an individual who has been stereotyped happens to break the mold,i.e. show that they are completely different from the stereotype in many ways. The problem here is it'll take a lot more than just one individual to show people that stereotypes aren't always correct, nor are generalizations.

The main problem with stereotypes is the generalization that happens when more than one person happens to fit a generalization. There will always be exceptions to every stereotype, but many people tend to go by the amount of people who they personally see, read about, hear about,or encounter who happen to fit the stereotype. This is when they generalize.

Every day you can see the generalizations based upon stereotypes. Here's a little list:

"Everyone who lives in a trailer are trailer-trash"
"Republicans are a bunch of fat-cats that want to keep the rest of us poor"
"Liberals are weak and want you to fund everything that everyone else wants"
"Pagans are child-eating devil-worshippers"
"Christians are a bunch of arrogant idiots who want to convert you"
"The poor are just a bunch of lazy people"
"That guy looks like a geek"
"That girl with the leather mini-skirt must be a skank"
"That guy must be a dumb jock"
"That guy with the big muscles is probably gay"
"Guys with long hair are nothin' but pot-smokin' hippies"

There are so many more that could be used as examples, but these should give you an idea that it doesn't only happen in regards to religion.I won't mention certain ones based upon Race, because I do not feel that it is appropriate to do so...but the ones I listed should give you a clue as to how much actually goes on in everyday life.

But...like I said, people tend to generalize too often based upon what they see, read, hear and encounter. It really would take a lot for people to stop making snap judgements and actually wait until someone proves that they fit a stereotype.I really don't see it happening anytime soon. no.gif
