I read a few times that diamonds have been spotted in deep space. It made me wonder what explanations we have for their origin. Anyone?

Novas, supernovas and meteoroid impacts???

Perhaps the impact of meteors at tens or hundreds of miles an hour could make diamonds?

Anything you say would be a guess. Diamonds could be quite common throughout the universe. I would be surprised if they weren't. Anywhere you have carbon, some heat and a lot of pressure can make them.

I am going to move this thread from the Science & Technology forum to the Space and Astronomy as that seems a more appropriate place for it.

Condescending, I think you may be interested in the following thread in the Space News forum: Spotting Diamonds in the Sky. It is about how the Spitzer Space telescope is being used to search for tiny diamonds in deep space.
