The thing is, Microraptor was a feathered dinosaur, but not the forrunner of birds. Birds popped out far before this sucker. Birds didn't evolve from dinosaurs, birds ARE dinosaurs. Saying they evoled from one another is like saying poodles evolved from dogs. Dinosaurs evolved from reptiles.

I think 65+ million years is enough for them to have change sufficiently enough to earn their own classification. I mean, nobody connected the two until archaeoteryx (sp).

Interestingly you can actually where the feathers were dark or light on the fossils of microraptor if you look at the photos of it. However as for colors, it's just imagination. No one will ever know what color dinosaurs were unless one happens to come waltzing out of the woods one day. As far as we know, apatosaurus coulda been neon green.

For years and years scientists though the archeopteryx was a hoax. If they had found this thing they woulda have had a heart attack.
