IRVINGTON, N.Y.

An 80 year old man who thought he'd lost the only recording of his dead wife's voice can hear her again, any time he wants. When Verizon upgraded Charles Whiting's telephone service, his wife's voice sayng "Catherine Whiting" disappeared from his voicemail system.

She had died in 2005, and Whiting said he listened to her voice every day for comfort. He blamed Verizon for the loss, saying "Now they took her voice away".

But Verizon had archived all the old greetings and messages, Company spokesman John Bonomo said Tuesday that a contractor found the recording and restored it to the new voicemail system.

"I'm glad they rescued it" Whiting said. I'm very happy".

Well it was nice of Verizon to rescue his wife's voice, even though it leaves me wondering what else do they have recorded...or have monitored?!

They have to keep them for so long because when people dial the number for their messages or the greeting they have to be stored somewhere...

Kind of reminds me of that Criminal Minds episode with the kid from Malcolm in the Middle in it from a few months ago. laugh.gif

I saw the original story when they told him they couldn't retrieve the voicemail. It's nice to see a follow up on a simple story like this. Glad everything worked out for this man.

I just recently watched a home video of me when I was about 10yrs old. my grandma was on there, just her her voice again after about 12yrs of not having her around, it gave me goosebumps. I was kinda wiging out over that for a while.

I'm so glad they could restore her voice for him! I know how much it can comfort you when hearing that beloved voice from someone who you really loved, and is gone now!
