So, I just bought a Samsung SC-D372 MiniDV camcorder. I am hoping with this I can capture very strange things that have been happening here in San Jose, CA. I have been seeing UFO's for years, I would like to get some of these things I've seen on video- not just in my mind or stories to tell the grandkids someday.

My concerns are what if it doesn't pick up stars very well or the night sky?
I have no problem returning it and buying a more expensive camera in a few weeks when I have the money- if I can capture night happenings.
If there are any add ons I can buy that will help capture stars and the night sky without needing to upgrade please let me know.

If anyone knows about this cameras capabilitys and any setting I may want to try let me know ASAP!

EDIT: Here is the link to the camera: http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Samsung-SC-...roductDetail.do

Thanks guys!

Ok, this camera sucks. I saw some great stuff in the sky tonight and couldn't get ANY of it to show up.

I am now considering to throw in a lot more...
Do any of you think THIS: http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Hitachi-DZB...do#availability will pick up the stars?

I tried google for some tips on this subject and a comment made in one of the sites mentioned a SNSP Super Night Shot Plus setting which slowed the exposure time. BTW a search for camcorder to record the night sky had your post as the first entry.

You are investing a lot of money I would suggest you first do a search to find some of the hints listed from professional photographers. Last sky photography I did was college using a celestron 8" scope.

Good luck

Try getting as far away from artificial lighting as you can to take your shots. Use a flashlight to get to your spot and then take it from as complete a setting of darkness as you can.
Good luck. I would love to see your pictures.
