From around 1985 onwards, a series of mysterious house fires were bought to the attention of the public, following the discovery that in each case, the building and their contents were destroyed, apart from a painting called "The Crying Boy", which remained unscathed. It became known as "The Curse of the Crying Boy".

The picture was painted by a Spanish artist of an orphan - his studio burned to the ground and the boy was killed in a car crash. Some Physics say the painting is haunted by the spirit of the boy it depicts. Supposingly there are alot of copies out there...

Has anyone heard of this painting...This is the first time I came across it, and found it interesting...

I had heard of this before, but forgot where.Very creepy if true.
I don't have that at home thank goodness.
I do have one of a little boy wearing a sailor outfit with red sneakers, sitting in a rocking car
reading a book.Nothing spooky about it.Momma and Daddy purchased it because the boy and the outfit he was wearing was the spitting image of my brother, they bought it back in the late 1960s or early 70s. Have to check futhur into this picture of the Crying Boy.

Whether the story is true or not, I have no idea...It's such a sad picture, although not as bad as "The Hands Resist Him"...Supposingly, even those that have copies of "The Crying Boy" are said to have house fires, with only the picture remaining intact...This little guy looks so pathetic....

Wow just looking at the painting here puts a chill in me, the boy has eyes that look like they are seeing right through you. he has tears but looks more Sinister, and not like a child who is crying.

Now that you mention it, i tend to agree although i'm still torn between that touch of sinister, and just a very sad little boy! It's like you don't know if you should feel you want to give him a comforting cuddle, or run for the hills in fear! Quite an interesting painting for sure!

Hi Simmo, welcome to UM...It was just a regular size painting hung on the walls of homes...Supposingly the homes would have a fire and the only thing that wasn't damaged was this picture...... original.gif

Scroll down to find several paintings done by Bruno Amadio, the artist for the crying boy painting that you posted.

And apparently our own Saruman had a thread about it back in 2003.

Well, yeah, but they must have trouble storing all the prints of it. Antique stores and auction houses must be burning to the ground left and right. Ships bringing them from Spain probably burned too. Maybe even the factories where the prints were made. If you don't live near the antique store, and have a long road trip with it in the car, I bet car fires can actually be a problem.

We had one in my mum's house and after I read the story in a book featuring 'The Fortean Times', I told her it brings bad luck and she promptly got rid of it.....My sister is still unmarried so mum figured TCB was the cause.....

Thing is we got rid of it years ago and she's still single..... laugh.gif grin2.gif
