Not shocking, my first computer had 24K ferrite bead RAM, over 200 boards with 4700 chips and consumed over 2KW electricity. The mass storage was 1 MB on open reel tape. The components alone were over $5000, plus at least three times as much for labor (then again it was 1973).

But: nice find.

I remember my Commodore 64 with a cassette drive that I had as a kid. Probably around 1982 or so.

I wish I could remember what the retail price of those were. I'm sure it wasn't cheap.

this site was cool-thanks for the link!

The initial price was $600 plus peripherals.

I don't know why, but it is the only notable early computer I don't have, no idea what happened to the one I bought in 1982....

Thank's. That's pretty close to what I would guess.

I remember in middle school ( grades 6-8 ), we had Apple II and Apple IIE's. Typing in programs in BASIC language sure was a chore. Especially when I'd make plenty of mistakes.

When I was 13 years old, which would of been 1983, my best friend had a computer. The first one I had ever seen. There was a game in which you could decorate a house. Paint the walls and floor, pick some furniture. I remember being able to pick a bird in a cage which made tweeting sounds, and a gold fish in a bowl that swam in circles. I have no idea what type of pc it was though.
Anybody remember that?

That would put me at exactly the same age as you.

But no. I don't think I remember that game. It sure doesn't sound familiar.

Somewhat. My brother and I did get an Atari 2600 when they first came out. I remember most of those games. And then we got a Nintendo. But my interest in video games was going away at that point. You know. Girls and beer sort of took my interest. I still played some games on the computer. But at some point I developed a short attention span.

If I went to an arcade I would usually end up in the Skee-Ball area. I still love Skee-Ball.

Skee Ball is a blast.

I had an Atari and Nintendo growing up to. Now my boy friend and I are collectors and gamers. We own Atari's, Nintendo's, super Nintendo's, play stations, game cubes, and on up the ladder. Man it's fun.
