MOSCOW, Russia (AP) -- A Russian man is accused of murdering a hairdresser over the price of a haircut.

Prosecutors said 33-year-old Vadim Tikhonov killed the woman who cut his hair in a Siberian barber shop when she tried to stop him from walking out without paying after complaining that 100 rubles ($4.10) was too much.

They said he grabbed a hammer and hit her on the head, then took out his knife and stabbed her 12 times.

The Omsk region prosecutor's office said Tikhonov was arrested a month after the October killing.

It said he told police he killed the woman because he did not want to pay for the haircut, and did not have the money.

One hundred rubles, worth less than three euros, is at the lower end of the price range for haircuts in Russia

Dude, I pay $120 when I get my hair done! Course, I get a cut and color; but still, $4.10 for a regular haircut? Can't even find that in most places in the states!

I've had bad haircuts where I thought the hairdresser might be hammered but it never occured to me to return in kind.

Apparently life is worth too little in Russia or for that matter in most of the world these days. Its really a shame. Maybe the population of the world is just too big a number.

LOl i agree, a few years ago on New Years Eve, as luck would have it, a hairdresser left bleach that was too strong on my long hair. Walked out with a pixie cut.....grrrrrr.

Bah, I pay twenty dollars every two weeks getting my hair cut. This is so much more then i'm used to spending being a guy and all. I currently bartend so I gotta look good to get that money!

I know what you mean..... I had a couple of cuts that were NOTHING like what I told the hairdresser; I even gave them a picture! But still, actually killing them never crossed my mind....I have a feeling if it hadn't been this, it would have been something else for this guy.....

I don't mind if they mess it up cause I know it will grow back and maybe why I don't mind is I am comfortable cutting it bald. I've had my hair long(heavy metal long), permed, mohawk, samurai, flat top, spiked, mullet, etc..

Funny as a kid, I cried when barbers mess up my hair.

Whew - talk about a 'Bad Hair Day'... that guy must've been insane.

My father went to russia when I was young and he said You could live off such amount of money people had when he first arrived but by the time he left the same amount of money wouldn't buy you a loaf of bread. So people who had saved all their lives had money that was about 5 euro. One women he said saved money to pay for collage fees and then the that value dropped and she wished that she had spend to money on something because at least she would have had something out of it.

I'm not trying to justfy that it would be ok to kill someone over the price of haircut. I also don't know what the economy is like over in russia now. It's probably a lot different. Maybe the guy was just pissed off that the price of his haircut took him too years to save up.

He was looking for a reason. Any reason to finally snap. I wonder if it was having to pay for the haircut that really set him off.

That was my thought when I read the story the first time. If he killed over some thing that trivial, if it hadn't been that, it would have been something else just as trivial. This poor woman was just in the wrong place at the wrong time....

Why...? This is not a haircut.... this is a hair 3-car-pile-up accident.....
