A man who lives in a north Edmonton bungalow described Thursday how he found a baby's body in a rented bedroom in the basement.

Homicide detectives began investigating Wednesday afternoon after they were called to the home near 69th Street and 130th Avenue.

The dead baby was found in this north Edmonton home on Wednesday afternoon.
(CBC) "I went downstairs to change over the laundry, and my dog was going nuts at one of the bedroom doors," said Wayne, who lives upstairs in the home with his family and asked that his last name not be used.

"I opened the door. My dog ran to the right side of the bed. I went over and looked, and there was a white bag and I pulled the bag out and noticed there was red through the bag."

The man said he called his girlfriend, who opened the bag and found the dead baby.

The woman who lived in the basement was in her 20s and went to school with his girlfriend, Wayne said.

"People thought she was pregnant but she denied it. It's a sad situation."

An autopsy was completed Thursday, but results have not been released as police continue their investigation, said police spokeswoman Patrycia Chalupczynska.

Chalupczynska also said the infant was a girl, although police earlier identified it as a boy.

No other details are being released.

crying.gif My heart just breaks when i come accross stories like this! But what i don't understand is, with the availability of abortion woman have access to why would a woman remain pregnant only to kill or let her new born baby suffer and die!?!

Abortions cost money. A plastic bag is cheaper.

Disgusting, and so sad...

They can be had for free in the US, too, and I would assume Canada also.

Moreover, many Pro-Life groups will pay for pre-natal care and delivery expenses.

And in the United States and I believe Canada living newborns can be handed over at hospitals, on a no-questions-asked basis.

Your right Ohio....I think if the baby is 6 days old or less, they can be left at hospitals or fire houses, with no questions asked....and free abortions are available....This woman wasn't a teenager, where confusement can rattle the mind....I'm sure, knowing who she is will bring them closer to "why this was done"....Very sad.....

I agree, there are ways to get help financially, and keep your name confidential here in Canada also. And the artical states that when people who knew her asked, she denied even being pregnant. So the only thing that i can think of is that she has some serious pshycological problems, and mabey she even really believed she wasn't pregnant! Then all of a sudden she goes into labour, delivers the baby and without really understanding what she's doing puts it in a bag, and carries on with her delusional life! Clearly this woman needs help in a big way, and i hope they can find her before it happens again! Poor little baby, it just breaks my heart!
